    Needle Free Insulin Pump!

BBC NEWS | England | Cornwall | Needle-free diabetes pump tested

Patients with Type 1 diabetes in Cornwall have been trialling a new treatment for the disease.
The treatment involves an insulin pump that mimics the body's pancreas and does away with the need for injections.

Some patients using the new pump have reported impressive results and an improvement in their quality of life.

Dr Duncan Brown, a consultant at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, said the insulin pump could also prevent hypoglycaemic attacks.

The pump works by delivering measured doses of insulin through the layer of tissue just beneath the skin.

    'Unpredictable attacks'

"For some patients with Type 1 this can be very disabling," he said.

"It can cause them to lose consciousness at unpredictable times, meaning they cannot drive.

"The pump can reverse this, meaning they have a better quality of life and can get back to doing normal things like driving."

That sounds like a regular pump to me. Is it needle free in that you don't take shots? Or needle free like no infusion set? If like no infusion set, they sure didn't expand on that much.

I think they are just talking about a regular pump. I think the mention of the lack of needle means, no more injections. Just a weird headline.

What the heck kind of quote is this?????

Sounds like a regular pump. They are not as common across the pond and many don't know anything about them.

If there were no infusion set, then it would have to be a type of implanted pump that somehow gets it's insulin refilled when empty. Based on the article, I also think they are simply referring to the same pumps that many of us currently use...

Well If there is no infusion set, I must say where can I sign up?

Ive seen needles claims before using regular old fashion insulin pumps.

Old fashion yeah why not use this word? With all the Technology we have today someone could figure out a better way doing this rat race.

Yes the pump and MDI is in my humble opinion like comparing horse and buggy and super nice comfort car like a Mercedes or pick one, how about those old little black and white tv's with the tin foil wrapped around the rabbit ears and a HDTV with Dolby Digital sound.

I think most who try pumps and go back to MDI are going back because of the cost, period. Who wouldn't want to go through a day with just pushing some buttons to get the job done.

I don't miss the looks and hay watch ya doing and injecting in public places.

Yep cost is very high with a pump. I guess to a lesser very minor reason that very few will go back to MDI is site problems.

I would like to see a better way or more accurate way for pumps to sense the BG and act accordingly and predict from what you consume by inputting and the thing accurately knows from a few calibrations of your common meals it learns exactly what to do.

Also they could put all reading and send them to your PC wireless's, or send the reading over the cellular waves to your computer. I bet this wouldn't be to hard. I bet they are already have something like this and haven't let loose with it yet.

BodyTel is working on Bluetooth Stack and BG Meters now.
