Post This is weird but true. Hot flashes for Men.

Hi, I was always told hot flashes is for women only but now I'm having them to. My Diabetic doctor said men can have hot flashes to because of diabetes. What do think about this subject?

I know I was a furnace when I was undiagnosed and eating carbs. I was loved in winter and shyed away from in the hot summer. I was on the toboggan run in Lake Placid with only a medium jacket and my buddies girlfriends were all pressed up against me as I was giving off a lot of heat.
Now that I've gone low GI, I am still warm but not a furnace. my buddies like me a lot more now that their girlfriends find me less warm

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. A hot flash is like a hypo. Estrogen is involved in getting glucose to brain cells. And when estrogen levels fall, brain cells are starved of glucose. The hot flash is a glucose counter-regulatory system response. Adrenalin is produced to mobilise liver glycogen and raise blood glucose. And it is the the adrenalin that causes the hot flash symptoms.

The production of sex hormones in men is very stable in middle and old age. While diabetic men have hypos, it seems unlikely that sex hormones have anything to do with it.

Thats my 2 cents worth, anyway

There are many causes for hot flashes in men, and a sudden and substantial drop in testosterone levels happens to be one of them. Hot Flashes in Men

Thanks for bringing it up. Had some this last Fall and need to talk to my doc about them when I see him.

If cancer had caused the problem, you would have known all about it by now. It must be someting else and may not have anything to do with testosterone. Are you sure it isn't just low blood sugar because of the insulin and meds you are on?

Hot flashes in men are a lot more commen than you would think. Woman just get a bigger write up on it.
There are many reasons why it might happen and few of them are anything to worry about.
It could be anything from something you have eaten or drunk to sexual stuff. I really wouldn't jump straight on the cancer band wagon.
I have worked in this field and seen many worried men. They almost all go away a lot happier.

Your right it could be my meds and insulin. All the blood tests I have had done in the past from 2003 up to present should have found this problem by now. I did have a Prostate test done two and half years ago and they found nothing wrong.

Thanks, Rob

We all expect women in your condition to be a bit randy. .
And so nice to make the blokes relieved

I used to have them quite often until I started eating healthier and quit drinking.

In fact, I used to have a fan running at my desk all of the time. Now, I rarely turn it on.

Is it BG or weight loss? No alcohol or low carbs? Who knows? I just know that I get cold much easier than I did before Dx.
