Talking A great awakening!

My DH has finally come out of denial of his D diagnosis of 6yrs ago! I have tried repeatedly to get him to a dr. because he was losing so much weight. He finally agreed to go and he had lost 25 lbs!! His bs was 287 random at the office. Doc wanted to put him on insulin then but DH asked for another chance with the pills. He put him on Met and Glyburide. That evening his bs was 357, but since then they have all been below 200. I have been counting his carbs and trying to educate him a bit on how that works. THANK ALL of you for all the great info on this forum. Now for the question-how do I keep the carbs in range and get some meat on his bones? Will the weight start coming back as the glucose numbers even out? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am SO happy that he is finally taking this seriously. I didn't want to be a widow at 63.

By having lower BG's means that the mussel tissue will grow back up and he will gain some weight back from what he has lost so over time he will improve.

Congratulations...on "his" improvement...it really is wonderful he has an eager partner with his disease. But, it is really important that he not lean on you to much as a crutch...hopefully he will be counting his own carbs soon. That would be his best gift to you...glad things are improving!

Hi Kay ~ I'm wondering if "below 200" is low enough? I believe that blood sugar should really be much lower. I don't mean to be negative because it's awesome that your hubby's decided to take control, but maybe your hubby should be on insulin. A bonus with insulin is that you can eat anything you want, as long as you know the amount of carbs in it ~ then you just match the carbs with the correct amount of insulin. You can eat whatever you want, and the insulin keeps your bg's much lower than pills can sometimes do. Just something to think about!
