| | | should I be concerned about my numbers? I don't have diabetes (that I know of) Lately I seem to be having alot of symptoms... thirsty, trips to the loo around 10 times a day and constant fatigue. Yesterday I went to my chemist and bought a meter, I tested at around 6pm and the meter read 9.2, then I tested at bed time 11.1 and this morning before breakfast it was 10.5 are these levels really high? thanks for any advice |

| | | Yes, those numbers are high, and you are showing classic symptoms. You are either diabetc, or something else is wrong (unlikely). Go to the doctor as soon as you can get an appointment, and stick around here to learn as much as you can. When you go to the doctor, tell him exactly what you told us, and also ask him for tests to find out if you are type 1 or type 2. Most doctors will just presume you are a type 2 and not do the tests to find out. This is a bad move. You want at least the following tests:
A1C (helps to confirm diagnosis in the doctor's mind, and is a good indicator of control for you)
c-Peptide (will determine how much insulin your body is making- if none, then you are T1)
Anything else he wants to do is great.
Welcome to the club.

| | Yes it could be diabetes inless it is something else which I doubt very much with numbers like that anyway and you said you have the symptoms. I would go and see a doctor and get it checked out. better to catch it early anyway |

| | | Hello Sveta and welcome.
I agree with owlyn - you need to see a doctor and make certain that he does the appropriate tests.
Let us know what you find out.

| | Oh **** But it's really good you caught it early! And don't be scared, it isn't too bad to live with Diabetes, everything becomes routine, and after a while you'll barely notice what you're doing when testing and injecting, it will be 2nd nature. I diagnosed my friend with type 1 a couple of days ago (a doctor confirmed my guess and gave the official diagnose later in the day), and my friend (Elina on here) is having or at least had a bad case of needle phobia, but she's doing great now! She's still running quite high, but with 30mmol/l (~540mg/dl) when we tested her 2 days ago, we don't want her bloodsugar to go down too fast and cause hypo feelings while still sky high...
Don't be afraid to ask questions on here, and you're definitely not alone going through all this! You have already found a great place for support!

| | Have you gotten some insulin to bring those sugars down now?
I don't know about others on here, but when i was diagnosed back in 2004, after feeling generally ****ty for a while, it was actually a relief to get diagnosed, to get answers to why i was feeling so totally **** and drinking and all the time, eating like a horse but still loosing weight, and all that (not so) fun stuff happening when running high.
