I'm sore...

Firstly,

I'm normally a very upbeat and optimistic sort, but I woke up, checked my blood sugar, which was a nice 98, took a pre meal bolus and just got angry. I'm sore, I inject on the inside of my thighs, belly, love handles, occasionally arms, but since I lack much in fat in my arms, I avoid them as an injection site as injecting into muscle sure smarts. I have multiple bruises on my abdomen and inner thighs from injecting, using a pen does not permit me to aspirate the syringe to make sure I am not in a vein, venule, etc. It simply irked me. I take 5 injections a day, 4 x of novolog from a flex pen, and one of levemir at night. I get great control with this regimen, and normally, I am a pretty jovial diabetic, I often refer to my insulin injections as "lunch", as in "time to have lunch"! and not much gets me down, but being sore all over. I rotate injection sites each time to minimize discomfort and bruises as well.

Would it be considered unreasonable if I kidnapped my endo doc, held him captive for a week and jabbed him 5 times a day with my needles and asked him "How do you like THAT, BOZO"?

I am not looking for sympathy, nothing would piss me off more. This isn't a question, It's more of a statement that I am frustrated. On the bright side, my control is GREAT! My next A1c is going to be very satisfying. The needles, well, I won't say what I REALLY think of them, there may be children present.

Time for a pump?
I mean while your poking the endo, at least have him sign the scripts for it.

I think it would be great if doctors, spouses/sig. others/friends and family could spend ONE WEEK as a diabetic, feeling what we feel, doing what we do, eating as we eat.....it would be an eyeopener for them for sure!

I get sore from just the 2 Byetta injections I take each day (and love the multicolored bruises on my abdomen )...so I can imagine how you must feel with all those jabs.

Not giving you pity...so don't get "po'd" ...just recognizing that being a "human pin cushion" must get irritating fast!

That made me chuckle and OH YES, I so agree! I would love for them to have to spend a week being a diabetic.

hi...i read these posts and i read the posts telling people that being on insulin is not a big deal.....and it seems to me for type 2's to try to avoid the whole needle thing if possible really is a big deal.....that being said...i say go for taking the endo captive....it seems that it is just for educational purposes for him any way...and if i am on your jury you will certainly have me in your corner : ) (though i would caution you to refrain from calling him any thing stronger than bozo...it might not fair well for you during trial!!)

I agree........time for a pump! There's so much more freedom & flexibility and only one "injection" every 3 or 4 days!

Just an update

Well, I'm not sore anymore and I'm a little more recharged, so, I'm back on top of my game.

I would like to point out that I was successful in getting a prescription from my Endo for an Animas 2020 pump.

Now for the bad news, My insurance will not pay for it as they say I have non qualifying labs.

So, no pump for me, it's MDIs for me. That's the breaks and I am ok with that. I did explore some programs that offer assistance to some patients that need pumps, but I didn't qualify there either.

While it is true that this is medical equipment that will give me greater control over my diabetes, I suspect that in my case, my insurance is of the opinion that a pump is not a necessity but a luxury and MDIs should suffice for me. So, there we have it.

On the bright side, at least my insurance company WILL pay for my insulin PENS and the cool short needles! I *AM* thankful for at least that. So, I'll just have to wait and join you pumpers at a later date when my insurance figures out that the pump is a GOOD thing and not a luxury. Until hen, I'll just have to keep looking like I had a hot saucy night with a porcupine.

What a bummer your insurance company didn't approve to cover the pump Shouldn't it be some kind of paragraph to approve pumps for people being troubled by MDI either physically or mentally? One should think constant bruising should be a reason to get off MDI
I'm lucky to be one of those that rarely or never get any bruises from my injections And i often inject 6 times per day... with the 8mm 30G needles- sometimes 31G... Even tried the 28G 12mm ones without bruisng
