| | | Well, I won't say I wuz bad but Sunday evening my glucose was 359 and had been well over 250 all day. This morning it was down to 216....I blame it on bad sites, poor absorption, etc......

| | I had a couple of pieces of S/F candies (Dove chocolate, mmm) and a reduce sugar cupcake so I wasn't too bad but I did want one of those Nerd Jellybean eggs my daughter got. I love Nerds!
As for the Sugar alcohols question... Sugar alcohols are usually incompletely absorbed into the blood stream from the small intestines which generally results in a smaller change in blood glucose than "regular" sugar (sucrose). This property makes them popular sweeteners among diabetics and people on low-carbohydrate diets. Where they do get you is in your digestive system, some get a bad case of diarrhea if eating a lot.

| | | I did all the cooking for Easter this year, so I made sure there were seveal options for me, as well as some goodies that everyone else enjoyed.
The great part about doing all the cooking is that after dealing with all the food prep all morning long, I wasn't in the mood to eat a lot of it.
Hubby got me a small dark chocolate Lindt bunny...and it no longer has any ears, but other than that, I was a good girl this easter!

| | One of the benefits of not having any family in town is that I don't get exposed to huge meals full of stuff I can't eat. I didn't get any candy or anything for myself so I did very well this weekend.
In fact, since my diagnosis 2 weeks ago, my glucose was down to it's lowest level yet this morning. I read a 177 this morning. Not bad for being 400+ just 2 weeks ago. And I'm still not ramped up to my full Metformin dose yet.

| | I had one mini Reese's peanut butter egg (2 points on WW), and got my first mocha frap in 60 days
Okay, I don't like mocha fraps anymore... The Reese's, I could have had a ton more, but I made my kids keep their candy away from me.
I made a spiral ham for dinner and kept the carby sides to a minimum.
I have realized that I'm not hungry for sweets anymore since joining Weight Watchers. I'm too full from eating all the good foods I'm supposed to eat during the day. Still, I could have completely overdone it yesterday and I didn't, so I'm proud of myself. |

| | I was a total oink on chocolate, breakfast sweets and champagne. I so love M&M's, but I won't eat them again for another year. Wow, what a great day I had! |

| | | I had half a snickers "egg" and half a truffle "egg" at two different times.... I had them as my snack and didn't spike... so I was good about being bad ;-}
All things in moderation. I like to think I can have anything I want... if only just a little bit! If I couldn't have it at ALL it would be ALL that I wanted!

| | | I purposefully order sugarfree "munchies" ahead of time for holidays just for this reason. Of course the problem is not eating them all at once, because sugarfree does not mean fat-free or carb-free, etc :P |

| | | I didn't have anything special for Easter. I bought some M&Ms for my grandbaby's basket but thus far have not attempted to eat any of them.

| | | I was bad twice! Went to a friends whose daughter was having a 22 BD. Had a slice of lemon birthday cake. On to an Easter dinner at another friends and had a very thin sliver of lemon pie. I did eat small meals at each event though. |

| | Just because I had a four-course Easter feast with unlimited dessert buffet from which I ate several sugar cookies, chocolate bon bons, chocolate cake, mini cheesecakes, chocolate fruit tarts, and various chocolate-dipped berries, cakes and marshmallows... in no way means I blew it or that I've been a bad girl!
I purposely "blew it!" Granted, I don't do this sort of thing often, but I see this experience as playing an integral role in my happiness as a diabetic. It's a necessity. And considering that I'm a healthy individual for the rest of the year, it's no biggie for me.
Yes, my sugars pay for it for a day (they weren't even that bad actually), but, as a chocolate lover, I think that's trivial compared to my happiness on this chocolate holiday. Why punish myself? (though I do realize I have an easier time of it, being type 1 with insulin at my disposal).

| | | Ate ham and zucchini with onion. No candy in the house. I did have a small saucer with about three spoonsful of pie filling from a berry pie my hubby bought. No crust, just filling.
I wish I could say I've lost my taste for sweets since I've been eating like I'm supposed to. But I haven't. I just don't eat them. Maybe when I've got a little more control on this thing, but as of now....
