NovoRapid Side Effects

Hi all

Just a quick post to see if anyone has suffered any side effects from using NovoRapid, lately I have had swollen feet which is listed as a side effect on there website

Is this normal with everyone, or do I need to build up my insulin resistance, I am newly diagnosed and only started insulin last week, I will speak to my doctor but tomorrow about it as today was a public holiday in australia.

I used Novorapid for several years and did not suffer side effects like this. I've not heard of it before.

There are two other insulins you could try with similar response times; Humalog and Apidra. Apirdra is slightly quicker than either Novorapid or Apidra (in most people anyway). Hopefully, one of these will suit your body a little better.

The other alternative could be that the swollen feet are a coincidence and something else is going on with you. Welcome to diabetes. Whenever you get any ailment in the world, your first thought is often to link it in with diabetes whereas we are all just as likely to get any of the other little unrelated bugs and ailments out there...

WOAH!!! swollen feet is a side effect of NR??!!

I had no idea! I've had swollen feet for ages. I wouldn't have thought to blame it on insulin (and I'm not saying I do now either) because I've had full body swelling for many years. My doc calls it idiopathic - in other words, he doesn't know why and can't be bothered finding out.

I have noticed in the last few years that my feet are worse than anywhere else - in fact I've had to buy shoes a full size bigger than normal because they're sooooo puffy. If I lean my feet against anything I'm left with dents that last for hours! The rest of my swelling seems to come and go - I suspect it's related to some kind of food allergy or something... I'm working on it. But the swelling in my feet is pretty much 24/7, and really bad

I will be investigating this - I hate not knowing what causes it.

this site
says:
General disorders and administration site conditions
Uncommon - Oedema
Oedema may occur upon initiation of insulin therapy. These symptoms are usually of transitory nature.

I can't claim to have looked at every available piece of info of course... but so far it's looking pretty innocent.

George, that's a weird one.. I'd be giving your endo a call in the morning, and asking him. Humalog is pretty much exactly the same insulin, but people can have different reactions to the two (I prefer NR).

It looks to be something that is simply there when you first start using a new drug, and should disappear, but I'd be calling the endo just to be sure.

Swollen Feet?

I wasn't aware that Novorapid had these types of side effects. It's a minor miracle that I didn't show any signs of this side effect when I started on Novorapid. I'm usually the person that exhibits all possible side effects.

I know from personal experience that depending on the types of foods that I've been eating, I can end up with swelling in my feet. If I've sticking to my food plan and not eating any forbidden foods then I usually don't have any problems. So if I notice that I have any swelling, it's a sign that I need to be more careful with my diet.
