| | | When I was sixteen I ate mushrooms... they made my glucose sky rocket!! Do what you will, but I suggest that you have someone who really cares around to check you, if you are unable to do so.... |

| | | At my age and place in life, all that stuff is totally beyond thought, however that being said.
LSD in my opinion lasts way to long, where mushrooms are much shorter in duration, and the advice you received about a babysitter (that is familiar with diabetes) is also very important. Unlike alcohol that wears off in a few hours, and even when rather drunk, you can probably manage to get a BG reading, if your meter is beyond your conception because you are hallucinating to much, you could indeed have problems.
Be very safe, and the advice about a baby sitter can not be over emphasized. |

| | | A few risk factors come to mind here:
1. You don't know how these substances affect you post-diagnosis compared with the old days.
2. You won't know quite how strong the stuff you're getting is until it's too late.
3. However well your friends know you and your diabetes and will take care of you, I'm assuming they will be indulging as well? If so, their actions cannot really be counted on if anything goes wrong with you.
I would say all three of the above points to anyone going out in a group situation for a serious drinking session as well; all your friends may well be sensible, decent human beings but I wouldn't trust ME if I was blind drunk and I wouldn't trust your friends if they are intending getting out of their trees as well.
If you do wish to do this, please make sure there is someone there that you trust to not take anything so they can help you if you need it. Not for you; you've already decided to take the personal risk of doing the drugs. It's your body. But imagine if you do become very ill because of the drugs themselves or something you or your friends does whilst under the influence. If they are as decent as you believe, your friends would not forgive themselves. Be big enough to take that responsability away from them and ensure a stone cold sober person you trust will be there so the rest of you can have as risk-free a time as possible.

| | | all i can say is thank you everyone for your input!
only one of my 4 other friends is going to be tripping with me and the others are just going to be high (but trust me they do it plenty and will totaly be in control). ill make sure im over 100 going into it and ill probably eat something withought insulin (im still in a honeymoon and have a 1 to 45 carb ratio so this will be fine).
ill let yall know how it goes. im doing it in the morning and watching the sun rise! i cant wait and im very confident ill be okay - i just wanted to see if you all knew anything else specific to diabetes which it doesnt sound like much happens other than not being able to treat things as they come - but my friends are great and really trust them |

| | | I experimented in my college years (yes, I admit, it was fun!) and agree with the posts about going into it with a slightly higher BG and making sure you have friends with you whom you trust. They need know how to test, signs to watch for, and what to do in a diabetic situation in case you become incapacitated. I always made sure I had a good meal beforehand and bolused ~75% of what I normally would have.
I was aware of my diabetic state and my blood sugar results the entire time. Yes, my sugars ran slightly higher, but that's better that than hypo-ing. The acute effects of drugs like this can mimic a hypo, so it is crucial to test regularly so you don't freak out.

| | | Laikacomehome, you came here for advice and information, and once again, our forum family came through with lots of information and well-meaning advice. What you choose to do with this advice is up to you.
As the forum in no way supports recreational drug use, keeping this thread going and hearing about your experiences would really serve no useful purpose.
