Lantus & Humalog

Hi there,

I've already left a similar thread in the introduction forum but I thought I'd give it a go here as well. I am wondering if any of you are on Lantus and Humalog (or Novorapid) and if so how many units of each are you taking on a daily basis?

This is simply just for curiosity's sake!

Thank you,
Amanda

Two years ago before pumping I was 24 Lantus a day and 80-100 Humalog.

Hello and welcome!

My total daily basal is 31U. I switched from Lantus to Levemir about three weeks ago.

Bolus quantity depends on how much I eat; I use 1U:15g-CHO, and eat as I please. I switched from { Humalog, Humulin R, and Humalin N } to { Novo* } about a month ago.

not a low-CHO eater... not even close!

Thanks Brian, wow, you must be eating very minimal carbs a day! I was taking about 8-14 units a day when I was doing the 15:1 ratio but my sugars were just a tad too high so I am now doing a 10:1 ratio, and I'm worried about gaining weight. I used to be on 35 of the lantus (in the morning) and 8-14 units of the humalog depending on my carb intake. I now take 24 of the lantus at night and about 15-20 units of the humalog.

I take 23-24 units of Lantus each morning. I take Humalog at the ratio of 1 unit:15 carbs, give or take...but that's the average. I probably average about 1-4 units per meal but have taken up to about 10 units for a big, starchy meal...or asian, italian, etc. When taking the larger amount, I normally split my dose.

I also take Humalog for any snacks...usually in the afternoon.

I use to use 25 Lantus and 10-15 Humalog a day. Since I lost some weight I have cut down my Lantus to 15 and no longer use Humalog. Hoping that when I reach my weight goal I will no longer be needing the insulin or the oral medications (I'm on Januvia, 1000 of metformin and cut back on Actos from 30 to 15).

I take 8 to16 of Lantus at night depending on the season and my activity- in the summer I bike/train 2+ hours per day. I take 10- 15 humalog per day depending on what I eat. Okay, sometimes 20.

Hi & Welcome!

My total daily Lantus is anywhere from 22-26 units (depending on what i'm doing). 26 will be for a day at the office, 22 for soccer or surfing on the weekend.

My daily NovoRapid will alter from anywhere between 30-50 units.

So in total my daily intake is variable from 50-75 units.

Take care

PS: Am moving to an Animas 2020 pump in the next few weeks and will be using Novorapid, i'm interested to see how my daily intake will alter

Lantus & Humalog

I usually take 5 units of Novorapid following my evening meal and 10 units of Lantus to deal with the remaining sugars overnight.

My rule of thumb is 7 to 10 GL = take 5 units of Novorapid
if 10 to 15 GL then 10 units of Novorapid.

Increasing the Lantus dosage does not seem to make any difference to me.

15-20u of lantus at night

Each meal
1u Novolog per 15g of carbs (or 1u of carbs)
Then the wonderfull sliding scale correction factor
150-200 = 2u of novolog
200-250 = 4u etc etc

Hence the Prick and Pray philosophy

I have been on 10 units of lantus at night and 2 units of novalog at dinner.. I think the lantus starts to wear off. But that is it.. I am supposed to do novolg to scale for other meals but I only did that the first few weeks after dx. I watch the carbs.. and keep the insulin low. I perfer the two shots a day.. it has been over a year like this everyday.

That is most unusual David. You are obviously producing some of your own insulin. Keep testing regularly as that pattern is almost guaranteed to change at some time.
