| | | Doctor Duh.... Ok.... so reeaaaallllly long story kinda short. I have a blocked salivary gland... this has been going on 6 weeks, and have had two minor surgeries on it; still blocked. On insurance had to switch from oral surgeon/dental plan to health care plan and see some specialists.
Saw the Ear Nose and Throat specialist today. I told him that my FBG has been 5-20 points higher in the AM due to the worst pain being at night.
He responds.... "it is not infected, it can not raise your BG".
Duh.
Felt like saying... You listen to your body, I'll listen to mine. Oh, and read up chucko! This sucker HURTS ... I mean REALLY HURTS all the time, worst at night... and my FBG goes up the worse it hurts!
On a semi related topic.... I also saw my endo today.... he called me a SuperStar patient!!!!! (I excel input EVERYTHING, and test 4-6 times a day... and my Ha1c is 6.2) He told me good luck trying to conceive and reconfirmed my numbers are clear to do so. He asked that I cut the ENT doc some slack "not his specialty" Argh. Hope he "talks" to him!

Duh. | It may not be affected, but the stress can certainly raise your BGs. All that matters (d-wise) is you can recognize they are high and treat.
Gr8 job!

| | | My point exactly. The pain and stress.... it HURTS;and I tolerate pain pretty well. It may be indirect, but it's certainly the root cause, and I need to get it fixed ASAP. These people have no sense of urgency! I had never even heard of this ailment before and I am becoming intimately familiar with what blocked salivary gland means. I don't know how these things find me.
Thanks for listening to my rant folks.

[Endo] asked that I cut the ENT doc some slack "not his specialty" Argh. | It might not be the other doctor's specialty, but said doctor made an absolute statement with an air of authority.
"I've never heard of ... and don't know ..." would be one thing.
"It cannot" is quite another.

| | | is your clogged salivary gland what they call a "mucaseal?"
i had one last year, and it looked like i had a dip in my lip (tobacco)
that thing drove me nuts.
so one day i lanced it.
and drained it.
it never came back, it was there for a few months.
didnt mess with my BG though.
hope yours goes away!

| | | Yep Eddy... he absolutely said it with authority. I argued with him for about 10 seconds before I just let it go; I don't need more stress.... he doesn't make any of my endo decisions so it can't hurt me.
spinnb8. Yes... a mucaseal. This one is really deep, and is sublingual (under my tongue). I tried to pop it. I actually found out what it was becuase I BEGGED my orthodontist to pop it at a regularly scheduled appointment the day after it showed up. I thought it was a water blister, I get those from time to time. He told me it was too deep and sent me to the oral surgeon...
On two different occasions, I have had it "looped" (wire loop clean out), and drained (a pile of thick fluid the size of three stacked quarters).. and it still keeps coming back. They now need to slice it open way deep and SEW IT OPEN. Either that or remove it completely; which involves the risk of nerve damage.

| | | You better shut up. If they find out you're starting to think for yourself they will drop the hammer on you. They will list you as non complient and double your insulin.

| | Poor you Birdy, that does sound painful and stressful and its so frustrating when doctors dont listen. You are obviously very in tune with your body so keep on doing just that.
Sending you good karma and a hug Also good luck with TTC |

If I don't stop thinking about it, my blood sugar will increase by 20 mg/dL. (Only half kidding, here.)
Seriously... that sounds horrid. I hope you can get some relief soon.
