It really does run in the family...

I only just found out today that one of my aunts has just been diagnosed with diabetes. her bloodsugar was 18mmol/l! I dunno if she's type 1 or type 2 or 1.5 or what treatment she's getting though... I'm pretty sure she's type 2 because she's over 50 and has been overweight for most of her life even though she's had surgery to lose weight, but she's also constantly under a lot of stress due to having a chronicaly ill daugther who's totally beeing neglected by her doctors who no longer knows what to do and refuses to call in an expert from abroad... So her stressful life situation kinda talks against type 2 since stress CAN cause an autoimmune reaction... But i've also heard stress can cause T2... So again, i have no clue or even guess on what type she might have. Going to call in a few days and ask more and get some more info how things are going for my cousin...

Anyways... This makes me not the only diabetic in the family right now...

I have known that diabetes runs in my family as my granddad has type 1 and just recently my own father has type 2 and now I fear for my only sister and I can just see her having the type 2. I see that my sister has not complained of symptoms of any kind so I hope that she is free of this utter stupid disease.

Hi there

Sorry to hear about your aunt I am sure she'll feel better soon once she gets her numbers under control.

Yes, I also know autoimmunde disorders run in families - my grandmother had diabetes type 2 my mother had hypothyroidism and I have type 2 plus vitiligo which is from the same family of nasty complaints.

Suffice to say I have tested all my family re BGs.
