| | | Feeling Sick The past few days I've been feeling under the weather, and I was wondering if it could be blood sugar related, or just a coincidence.
I've been feeling kind of tired, although admittedly as a grad student I don't get a lot of sleep. More bothersom I've had sort of an upset stomach/digestive track and some lower back pain. It's been going on for a couple of days, and as I look back, it seems like it's been coinciding with higher blood sugars. I'm wondering if these symptoms could be related to higher blood sugar, causing it, or something else completely.

| | | I would be surprised if raised blood sugar levels are causing any of those problems, except perhaps tiredness. But if as a student you don't get enough sleep, surely that is the bigger reason? PS. Truman State? |

| | | Pregnant???
The changing of the seasons sometimes affects people for a few days when those first few cool days hit.
Hope you feel better soon.

| | Definitely not pregnant. I suppose it could be the weather, it's been very erratic all week. I just know that right now I can't sleep my stomach hurts so bad, and I have to be at work at 7. I'm hoping it goes away soon.

| | | Don't mess around telling us about it, go to your doc and get it sorted. I've not heard of back pain being a symptom of high bg's, lethargy however is. Are your levels consistently high? You may have picked up a virus of some sort, either way go to you docs as soon as you can.
take care

| | | High blood sugar CAN cause stomach problems and stomach problems CAN cause low back pain, so yeah it's possible.

| | Pain that prevents your sleeping sounds none too good. Your levels are never very high are they? I mean-- you are pre-diabetic. Know TSU? I was there last week! Small world. I was dropping off a computer for my son who is a student at Truman. I'm in St Louis. |

| | | I've been testing more than normal, and while it's been higher, it hasn't been too high. I've had some readings in the 200's earlier in the week, and I already have an appointment to go see my family doctor, but the earliest they could see me is the 31. Maybe I just picked up a stomach bug from my kids. One of my students spits on me on a frequent basis, so it wouldn't be a big shock...

| | | One of the problems with this darn disease is the question of, do I feel ill becuase numbers are high or are numbers high because you are ill?
With something that has persisted for a few days then it's time to see the doctor and get it sorted out. It could be a bug, kidney infection etc...
Get seen, get it sorted, feel better lower numbers.
Take care of yourself, stay hydrated,

| | I have been trying to get sick for a few days now and my BS numbers are slowly inching up as I feel worse. Today I think "the sick" is winning. I also have digestive track distress and some lower back pain, along with other aches, but I have chills and a slight fever and generally just feel BLAH. The fever seems to come and go, but I have been taking extra Tylenol for the aches. My fasting numbers have been over 150 for 3 days, and I have had a few over 200, during the day, though I am eating little. I just figure it is a bug and the numbers will go down when I start feeling better. I think your numbers will settle down, when you feel better.

| | | Thanks for all of the replies. I'm going to give it a few more days before I see a doctor because I simply don't have any good options. I refuse to go to the Health Center after the way I was treated last summer when I initially went in for the blood sugar problem. They had a chance to diagnose it but didn't. My insurance doesn't cover anybody within about 30-40 miles, and I have already missed too many days of class this semester as it is (between this and when I was first diagnosed.) I start my new fourth grade placement tomorrow and am already missing next Friday plus another three days the following week for a training in a reading program, so I really can't afford to miss any more.
I'll just keep an eye on things and if they get bad figure out what to do. Darn insurance. If they covered someone up here it would be much easier. Of course, that would presuppose that the doctors up here know what they are doing- which they don't. I was once diagnosed with strep throat when I had no fever, no symptoms other than a sore throat (which did not feel like the strep throat kind) and the test was negative. I don't trust anybody up here to know what is going on.

| | | I have had stomach problems all my life and I know the bugs are particuarly nasty. I don't even know how you can keep busy if you feel like **** stomach wise. Hope it's just a bug, it's VERY unusual for diabetes to call stomach issues.. something like neuropathy that affects the colon functions or something.. so it's probably just a bug and will go away soon.
