| | | My first UTI since dx Good morning everyone!
I have been suffering since Sunday with severe cramps, sudden movement pains, low grade fever and just a general feeling of c rap.
I finally went to a walkin clinic last night and after two hours got to see the doc, I told them I figured it was a bladder infection, did the whiz test and indeed that is what it is.
He a 'scribed for me Ciprofloxacin which amazing little bad boy that it is, has already almost completely removed the symptoms of this retched little inflammation.
What I didn't like was when Doc said to me.. "Welcome to the world of Diabetes, these can be quite common".
Ouch and yuck to that!
anyhow, just needed to winge and complain a bit, thanks for letting me!

| | | Cassini, glad you're feeling better!
I have to say i've been diagnosed over 2 years now and fortunately haven't had a UTI since diagnosis. I've never been prone to them though.
We see lots of ladies (and men) with chronic/recurrent UTIs in our urology practice, and most of them aren't diabetic...so take heart, just because you have one doesn't mean you'll continue with them. Sometimes women in the peri or post menopausal stages have more problems with these as well due.
Our docs suggest that women who are prone to UTIs avoid bubble baths, drink plenty of water, esp. just before and just after intercourse and if these still continue, some actually take a low-dose suppressive antibiotic to help with the symptoms. There are also cranberry supplements you can take that may help as well.
Again, drinking lots of water will help anyone suffering with UTIs. Sometimes prostatitis can also cause these type symptoms in men.

| | Ouch!
Cassini, I'm guessing your are male, as I have never heard a woman speak of "whizzing", unless they are speaking of a man doing it.
I have had a couple of urinary track infections but none after getting my A1c below 7.4. That is not a magic number for UTIs, it is just that I never had one again after leaving that number behind. I am in the habit now of keeping A1Cs below 6.

| | I'm a transcriptionist, so I can "regurgitate" information with the best of them! Amazing all the interesting tidbits you can pick up listening to the drone of doctors 8 hrs a day for 20+ years!

| | | Hi Cass,
. Found out just a short while ago that staying dry in the groin area is a very good thing. Had a thread about "a little skin irratation" that discussed this beyond all imaginations and then some. Talcum powder and a small cotton pad have made my life a lot more comfortable.
. I think what the doc was referring to is that diabetics might sweat more than others. I think that may apply to me. Tally Ho and make sure you take ALL those pills otherwise you'll be UTI'd before you know it.

| | Heh-heh, I just meant that women usually do not use that particular onomatopoetic euphemism for urinating--"whizz." In my experience women use other cute words or just say "urinate". Once again, I showed myself how lame my own stereotypes are. Hope you are now freely and painlessly whizzing, tinkling, peeing, tee-teeing, visiting the powder room, making water, draining your radiator, etc. (Mom, you are not reading this, are you? I'll send myself to the naughty chair.) | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
