confused about hypo's

Well I just had a super low blood sugar and didn't realize it. It came out at 3.9 on my meter. I had been feeling really cold and decided to test my bs's to see what they read.

I was really surprised. Before I would get into a hot flush and get sweaty, but this time is the total opposite.

Can someone please explain why the difference or what causes it.

Thanks for the help

Gary

I'm afraid I can't explain why it happens but my symptoms of low blood sugar change quite often. Sometimes, my lips will tingle. Sometimes, I'll feel confused. Sometimes, I'll sweat a lot. Sometimes, I'll have a fast pulse. Often, I'll have no symptoms at all. I wish I knew why this happens.

My symptoms fluctuate quite a bit also. Years ago I would always get shaky and sweaty when my bs was low, but now I'm more likely to get very tired or confused. Frequently I have no symptoms at all. It's my understanding that hypoglycemia unawareness can occur for a variety of reasons including tight control and/or frequent lows.

I agree with what's been posted . As for my own experience, sometimes I will not notice I am low if I have been running low for awhile. On the flip side, if I have a few highs and then a low, the symptoms of the low will seem more pronounced and worse than a typical low.

I get different symptoms from one experience to the other, too. Sometimes it depends on the level, but not always. I know I always get sluggish and cranky right around 70 (3.9 for you). Other than that, my symptoms can be different, weak and shaky is the most "normal", but I get tingly lips and nose and tongue, pounding heart, hot flashes/sweaty, or just a general "out of sorts" feeling or difficulty concentrating.

Just one of those things that makes us all individuals would be my guess.

Like Heather and the others, my feelings and symptoms tend to vary with each low. I also notice a variance in when my body detects a lower level, as sometimes, I may feel a shaky, hungry, etc...when 70, and sometimes, can feel nothing and have a reading of 30. Numerous factors can contribute to differing symptoms. I think this one's got us all stumped...lol
