I don't care if bio-tech companies profit from this proposition, as long as we can garner some new information, technology, and help advance the research towards cures for some of our most dibilitating afflictions.

Hey Arch,

I'm glad to see that California voted in favor of stem cell research. It will be greatly beneficial to advances within medical science, no doubt about that! That's good news!

State Government CANNOT pay for work like this as efficiently as the Federal Government.

Cali. goes further in debt and they, like the Feds will have to start cutting more programs than they already have cut to pay for mortgaging their future.


Trickle Down Economics at work.

Prop 71 passed by a huge majority in the state of California. California is in debt no doubt. However, it is our hope that much of this debt will be paid by sale of patents, royalties and licenses resulting from the research funded by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine. This will be a newly formed group that will be responsible for awarding grants and loans for stem cell research and research facilities. They will also be responsible for establishing regulatory standards. The Institute will be governed by a 29 member Independent Citizen's Oversight Committee (ICOC).

The fiscal impact on the state is really a big unknown. It is a chance we are willing to take. Thank God someone is.

California stands to make a profit from the funding of this research. How much, who knows. But the financial gain could be significant. Patents, royalties and licenses resulting from the research that is funded by the institute can be a large source of income.

The UC system in California stands to also gain from this research. UC's could attract addition federal or private research funding for this same purpose.

It seems that Proposition 71 may be a good investment for California. Economists project that it will generate millions of dollars in new state revenues from royalties and the new jobs it creates. If the research is a success, we stand to save billions of dollars in health care costs.

I guess it isn't always about money. In this case it is also about saving lives.
