Hey there
It's been a while since I've been around...things have been busy. Eri's now being home schooled through virtual school, which is good. She can move at a faster pace and do her work whenever. She's been out of school since October(actually, start date was in November)...October was when she got sick w/ a bladder infection type thing.
Anyhow, this past week(1/3) was her 9 yr anniversary of being dx'd...and she was in ICU.
The lovely head/chest cold and then stomach flu was going around the house and she was fine until new years day. Then, the next day, she was normal, bgl's were normal, around 130mg/dL, and then puking and everything, by the time I went in to make sure she was ready to go to the ER(moderate ketones) she was almost completely passed out.
We got her to the hosptial here and she was delerious and in extreme pain, heart rate was in the high 160's and o2 was odd and they gave her dilauded and phenagren. They even did her blood gas three time sw/o her flinching and the doc's couldn't wake her up, if they did, she would open her eyes for a second and they would roll. I was scared worse than ever. They were worried about brain swelling bc in the matter of 1.5 hours, her bgl went from 130 to 802...and then it dropped quickly, down to around 232 w/in 3 hours.
They called All Childrens Hospital in St. Pete and had the transport team get her so they moved her up there(we followed) to the ICU. She was in extreme pain(right side as usual) and would scream, but the only thing they gave her was ice(it's all she ever wants)...in a baggie, and it actually settled down, thank God.
They did an ultrasound and xray the next day and they found a spot on her liver. She was finally able to eat the next day.
Her nurses were concerned bc her heart rate, so they kept their eye on that.
She finally was moved to a regular room after two days and she had an MRI for her liver and an EKG and ECHO, which was abnormal, so they had her wear a heart monitor for the night.
Turns out she had something like 60 pvcs each hour. During the ECHO, the tech had to get different probes bc her heart didn't want to be seen(concave chest bone, heart further back...not unusual)...and we noticed the irregular beats. She said she didn't even realize it.
So, as we were waiting that 5th day for the results and to see the GI doc and the cardiologist, I got a phone call from my dh saying our son was hit by a car. Way to get my...and Eri's...hearts palpatating! Hit and run, but the guy who helped my son got the plate number. Some older guy, new BMW...cops found him and his dented car not too far away at a doctor's appointment.
Anyhow, a couple hours later the results came in from her MRI...clear, thank GOD, and then her cardiologist told us that both upper and lower ventricles have some issues but she will have an event monitor for a month and then they will decide on either meds or catheterization.
My son ended up w/ a fractured wrist and bumps and bruises all over. THey had to do an MRI bc he was knocked out for a few minutes and then his stomach was in pain...all clear. Thank God.
So, they were both home w/ us that night.
Now Eri's bgl's are going low, like in the 40's, the highest being around 160...and that's with her lantus going from 37 units to 30 units.
Her A1c had gone down from 15 to 12 when it was checked last month, so we've been on top of it...at least it's going down. We're aiming for 7 in March.
So, that's about it.
Hope everyones been well. I have a lot of catching up to do!
