| | | My big toe (warning, a little gross) I had my toenail removed almost 4 weeks ago. The doctor was going to do something to my toenail bed and remove the toenail on the other big toe, the next week. There was still too much infection and pain, so he told me to come back in another week. It was still too infected so he said come back in 2 weeks. The two weeks is almost up and the toe is still swollen, hurts some and seeping blood and pus. It looks terrible. I am starting to worry about it. Is this something that is normal because I have Diabetes. Do I just trust the doctor that it is OK? He isn't even admitting it is infected......just says something like "lets give it time to settle down". Today a big scabby piece came off and there was lots of pus under it. Should I maybe see my GP, or just wait the few days to see the foot doctor?

| | | Pus is always an indication of infection. At the very least a phone call to your doctor is in order.

| | | I would say you need to get somewhere soon and have someone look at it.
but i want to remind you that I had green/yellow liquid that was almost clear all the time for weeks that was some type of scab and a normal part of healing.
however I did not have swelling. it wasn't warm and no streeks.
I just don't want you to panic, but I think error on the side of prudence with this. better too safe than not.

| | Aww Penny , I don't envy you at all and the summer that you now have have saved you from wearing shoes. I can remember having those En Pointe shoes for ballet many years ago and bled from my right toe and from that day I have discovered "Ouch Pouches" Please get well Penny.

| | | Hi Penny,Don't wait for your foot Doctor appointment ,call your gp today....I had a plantars wart a couple of years ago and my gp sent me to a foot doctor ,after several weeks of visits to the podiatrist ,he deemed my case closed and said everything was fine..it wasn't,I called my gp and told him the problems that I was still having ,asking him do I call the podiatrist back ,he replied NO,come back to my office and he would continue the treatment..finally a couple of weeks later ,it healed !..sorry so long of a story.it's just that my experience with the "specialist "wasn't such a pleasant one"...your Doctor knows you the best....take care..Patti. |

| | | Penny,
((HUGS)).
I'd suggested you see your GP and get things checked.
The pros to this:
1. You get a second opinion
2. You can rest easier in yourself knowing it has been checked
3. If you need an antibiotic you will get one
The cons:
1. It may cost a bit of money to see your GP
I think the pros outweigh the cons

| | Just got back from the foot doctor, got the first toe "finished" and the other one started. Another round of antibiotics and more pain pills. It feels so strange to not be able to feel my toes, also can't feel the "little piggies who stayed home." So far no pain, but I know it's coming......I just wanted it all done!

| | | not sure if you said this already, but which foot is it?
the nail on my big toe on my left foot fell off over 2 years ago, was infected, fell off again 5 months later, more infection, more meds and wrapping it up, then it fell off again a while ago and hasn't grown back since...

Mine will not grow back, which is why I agreed to have it done. Got tired of infections and ingrown toenails and want to wear normal shoes again.

You are sweet right down to your toes. Heal quickly and stop stressing-it seems the advice here was wonderful. Do you feel the first foot is "Finished"?
