My day under 6.0!!!

well. i might finally be homing in on the correct basal for my body. at least i hope so.

last night before bed i upped my lantus to 30 units (up from 26 units).

i woke at 6.30AM to test (even though it was Sunday). and i was at 5.9 (106).

went back to sleep for 2 hours. tested again at 8.30. 4.9! (88). so far so good.

just been having small boluses - to match the carbs and:

breakfast of two poached eggs, ham, low carb toast and black coffee. 2 hrs pp -> 3.8 (68).

out for a drive. afternoon tea at the inlaws. snacked on cheese and nuts. even had two chocolates. before we left i was 3.9 (70).

before dinner 4.7 (85). dinner of sausages, steak, fried tomatoes, fried peppers, low carb toast. post dins 2.8 (50).

so time for some ice cream and a cup of tea!

so far, the whole day under 6.0! (108).

wow cool

I don't like the sound of anything fried, but besides that I like your experimentation.

I tried to lower my carb intake for breakfast this morning.. new to all of this diabetes thing plus I know nothing about what is suitable etc...

Anyway, I cut my breakfast carbs in half.. I feel great for it. Not even hungry.. which shocked me.. That said I am not exactly active, just been sitting around on the internet all morning!

Anyway, Thanks for posting because it gave me some insight.

I was curious.. does it matter how you cook the eggs in regard to the carb count?

i am really pleased to be of help Morris.

regarding things fried. imho, there is no need to be afraid of it - despite what people have been telling you for years. i fried the dinner in extra virgin olive oil and full-fat butter. eating like this has improved my blood lipids immensely.

regarding how i cook eggs. i have them boiled, poached, fried, scrambled and in omelettes. i think the carb count is the same - i only mix the eggs with water (for the omelettes) or full cream (for scrambled).

hope that helps...

Good one Joel. How do you feel at 2.8? It's definitely pushing the boundary. Here's something maybe to store for later: if you find you are pushing low just a little too regularly for your liking, but over time (days, weeks?) can't quite work out whether it's due to a slightly aggressive basal, or slightly aggressive bolus, basal testing could be very valuable. Short term fasting and removing all food (including non carbs) can reveal exactly how your basal insulin is matching your biological needs. It's been very useful to me and others. Should be easy enough to find info, but can always provide links if required.
