Goat milk/cheese

I was just wondering.....

I have a dear friend of mine, who just bought a "larger" piece of acerage, and has chosen to produce goat milk products.

She makes cheese (many different flavors), and I was just wondering how different cow vs. goat cheese (and milk) compare to grocery store products..... Mind you, I have yet to drink a glass of milk since my dx. (other than Hoods). Any thoughts?

I love fresh goat cheese and eat it as often as possible! Awesome in an omelette with some fresh herbs. I have also enjoyed several types of cheeses made with goats milk and I especially love Goat's Milk Gouda. I've had it both aged and not too aged. The aged reminds me of Parmesano Reggiano cheese; salty and much the same texture. I've never drank goat's milk straight up though. My rule of thumb with cheese as with anything else..moderation and test, test, test. You are lucky! You can enjoy your friends products I presume! Nice!

I eat goat's milk cheese all the time...LOVE it. Do be careful to test (as suggested by Chef), but I say go ahead and enjoy!

DH does not like it much and he usually does the shopping ... so last night I went with him and DS and I bought a small bit of goat cheese, and GORGED on it.

Sam is 6.5, but has a VERY sophisticated palate, compared to his sisters. I LOVE feeding this kid!!!!

Thanks for the feedback...

Although, I have never tried the milk, the cheese is delicious, and I am very impressed with the bars of bath soaps she makes.

The milk is good, slightly sweet but best fresh and chilled. As it sits, it gains a grassy taste.

Just had delicious goat cheese pizza for dinner last night. Sun dried tomato, olive oil, green onions, a touch of garlic, fresh basil & goat cheese on thin crust. Yum!
