Hey all-First time poster
I took the plunge recently and got lasik after checking out several doctors who preform the surgery and also ones that felt comfortable preforming the surgery on diabetics.
I had no complications and everything is fine. I know that there was a lot a potential complications with this but I honestly dont see what the hype was about. The surgery was SO simple.
I am not letting diabetes stop from from doing anything.... I work as a career firefighter/paramedic and when people said that diabetics could not get this done-well I did and it was AWESOME.
If anyone has any questions send me a email at jmarty1554@gmail.com
Stay safe

How exciting!
I'm currently researching and trying to decide between LASIK and ICLs. I've already spoken with a center that does LASIK, and they said I was a candidate based on my good control of my diabetes, the only very slight change in my prescription over the past year, and the thickness of my cornea.
Oh, to open my eyes in the morning and be able to SEE...

What about PRK?? My Lasik specialist told me that for diabetics that are not candidates for lasik that this is just as good alternative due to there is not cutting-just a scraping of the cornea.
I had Lasix done about three years ago. The BEST thing I have ever done for myself. I do have to wear reading glasses but to be able to swim and see or see in the morning when I wake is the best.

I have had both Lasik and PRK. About a year after the Lasik I started getting some complications from it. I was seeing double (or ghosting) mildly in my left eye, severely in my right. My eye sight had also regressed. So back to the center I went. Apparently it is a side effect and much more predominant in diabetics. So they sent me for PRK to correct it. This is when they told me that I most likely should have had the PRK done in the first place.
PRK surgery is very uncomfortable afterwards. Not something I would like to go through again. Recovery time was almost double normal due to the D. I think about a month and a bit later I was able to see clear.
I wish though that I did do the PRK first. I still have slight ghosting in my right eye but I can tell that the 2nd proceedure was much more effective. I have to wear reading glasses but it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Next to the pump of course.![]()
