Help with Advice for Eye Dr.

1. Yesterday, the eye Dr. says"People with Diabetes normally don't notice a change in their prescription for 1 to 2 (that's O-N-E to T-W-O) weeks. I notice a Huge difference if my B/G readings change just a few mg/dL points/tenths of points MM oL--in fact, that's a First Indicator, for me, that my B/G is changing---I think the boy is just spouting the "Normal Dr. Line"

Anybody else notice differences when their B/G changes?

2. the drops he put into my eyes messed my vision up so bad that I couldn't tell when I was dropping---sit at my job most of the time---I didn't catch myself until I was at 50/2.7---I was going to tell him to warn his other patients with Diabetes to keep a close eye out after they've had drops.

What do y'all think?

If I get enough responses, I'll either print off the responses and give them to him or sort of summarize them and give him the results

I notice a huge difference in my vision, as well as some of my physical eye features. When my BS is high (200), my vision gets blurred and my eyes feel like they weigh 100 pounds each. I also get really dark circles underneath my eyes. My girlfriends mother noticed my dark circles a few days ago. When I first became a diabetic 12 years ago, my Endo told me that my eyes will be blurry for the first couple of weeks because of my body getting used to normal glucose ranges. I think your eye doctor is blowing smoke up your you know what.

I see differences BIG TIME in my vision along w/ my blood sugar. I actually see better when Im in the range of 130-150 than anything higher or lower. My last appointment was in April 05. He says diabetics that have had this for as long as I have had it (22 yrs), usually have their eyes at around 3.00 or
-3.00 . Im at 2.25 but Im experiencing a lot of sensitivity to light, sort of stripes when I try to read. It got worst after he dilated my pupils, but they say WE must have this done.

After the last visit to the eye doc when they dialated my eyes, I couldn't hardly look at the computer or tv. It has taken me almost a month to get back to normal. I'm so glad that you posted this because I thaught it was just me. With my b/s being in a bit of a flux by astigmatism has double in the last month. The doc thinks that once sugars are consistant the effects will right themselves and return to normal. Thanks for the info

My husband thinks he is going blind right now and his numbers have been all over the place...he's really worried because he hasn't gotten over 170 (he started at 600 when we found out) in a few days and he is still VERY blurry. Hopefully when you level back out you will go back to seeing clearly again. Either way, it's friggin scary.

Yes... It takes quite some time for it to clear up. Please have the patience. Sometimes as much as 6 months of having good control to start to see much better. Please tell me your husband is seeing a an OPTOMALOGIST, I made this mistake for too long seeing an optometrist instead and now I have serious trouble!
My last eye doctor needed to see me at 2 different times, in case of blood sugar fluctuations. One appt in the AM and one in the PM.

rzrbks,

I think your doctor is spouting something a little less benign than the "normal doctor line" many eye doctors have told me that they'd not check my vision when my bg was above a certain level, because the results would be skewed. I thought that was general knowledge for eye doctors. and the 1-2 weeks thing is just ****. My eyes being funky is sometimes my ONLY indication of a high bg. (and my eyes aren't' good by any stretch of the imagination, have normal run 'o the mill farsightedness (is that where you can't see far away? that's the one I've got) I wear contacts but I think they're -7.5 or something like that)

I rely on my eyes to tell me when I'm going high, not low, so the drops the doctor put in my eyes just make me think I'm hyper all the time and leads to useless wasting of test strips nothing more dangerous than that, but IMO doctors SHOULD tell patients (diabetic or not) that the drops will make their vision funky just to prevent useless wasting of test strips, people not being able to tell if they were going low, or whatever more silly things "normal" people do after getting the drops... you know somebody somewhere has spent hours washing his sunglasses or something like that because he just kept seeing fuzzy out of them.

I can tell by my vision if my sugar is high or low...your doctor is just repeating what is in a book....we live it....
