Question action for high blood sugar at 22:00...

Hey I'd like to know what is the general action taken by board members when you test at 22:00, and have a high (bg>10mmol/180 mg) reading? It's snack time, and I take 20 units Lantus, and my snack. During the day I'm on Humalog. Do I:

a) Do nothing, Inject Lantus and eat normal snack (yogurt and fruit)
b) Inject Lantus dosage, and not eat any snack.
c) Inject Lantus dosage and a small (2u) Huamlog shot, for the high. eat normal snack.
d) other?

I just got a 13.5 mmol and have decided to take option (b), and see what happens. I'll let you know tommorrow morning. But what do you do?

thanks ;o)

I'm T1, I wouldn't necessarily do anything. I don't usually eat snacks, but I would adjust my Humalog dosage based on my correction factor if I were going to have a meal.

Really this depends on the purpose of the snack. If you are eating a snack because you are hungry, then I would take the Lantus and eat the snack as normal but also have a small dose of Humalog to compensate for the elevated BG. If however you are eating the snack purely to stave off a nighttime hypo, I'd just take the Lantus and forgoe the snack.

My correction level is about 1u:2mmol. That normally works fine, but I need to snack 2 hours later to prevent going hypo. it comes down though!

So last night I took my Lantus, no snack on a 13 mmol reading. THis morning I woke with a 3.8mmol/69mg which I'm quite happy with. Next time i'll just have something smalll to snack on...

When I test out higher late at night I typically take a 1:50 correction of Humulog and go for a 10-15 minute brisk walk (even late at night!). Unless of course it's raining (Seattle) -- then I'll do jumping jacks or walk up and down our stairs.
