too much protein

Hi has anyone ever had to much protein in their urine. My sister has for over 2 years. It is really foamy. The dr's said if they could get down her BP it would get rid of the protein. It did not. Everything I read says it is a result of kidney damage. Please if anybody knows anything about this - Answer. Thanks.

charlie, I had protien in the urine for two years straight and it continued to rise at every visit. I was very frustrated. I did a couple of things to try and change that. One....was I started drinking a ton of Ocean Spray cranberry juice lite.... I gave up almost all red meat...... I started taking flax seed (ground) two tablespoons with cranberry juice and I picked up the exercise routine. I went in for a twenty four hour urine test in November and my doctor said that it was just this side of a miracle that my protien was ZERO. He was shocked and so was I. Now I wish I could tell you if it was one or all of these things that made the difference. But...there you have it. I don't really know why, but I am at zero protien still today.

Nancy are you a diabetic? I was asking question for my sister. She has diabetes and has had protein for over 2 years. She also has high BP, neurtrophy in her feet, very depressed she even has trouble walking. She is 63 years old. Thank you Thank you Thank you for answering my post.
If you know anything that might help besides what you have already told me I would appreciate it. Did you take BP medicine during the time you were doing the other things in your list? Thanks thanks thanks

Hi Charlie, Yes Nancy has diabetes. Taking Bp meds will help, but your sister will also need to have her glucose levels under control. These two thing will help to prevent further damage, if there is any, and to help maybe reverse some of any that has already occured along with some of the nerve damage.

I have had protien in my urine, i got my blood pressure and glucose under control and i now have no signs of it. Please please please keep us posted on her progress. Do you know what her creatnine and BUN levels are? Is she showing signs of edema in her legs/arms? Do they have her on any diareutics? How long has she had diabetes for, and what type? I will pray for your sister. I was on dialysis when i was 14 due to a non-diabetic kidney infection, it's a rought thing to go through. Again I pray she doen't have to ever go there. Also make sure you have a nephrologist that is with the times. Ill look for the study, but this CAN and HAS been shown to be reversable, but old school nephrologists think that it can't be. Please keep us posted.

Feel free to message me on AIM - i dedicated my college studies to understand every aspect I could about the kidneys, pancreas and brain, my aim name is the same as on here - BriOnH

Hi

Yes I have protein in my urine & my doctor said this is a sign of kidney damage. I also have high bp & am on meds to help bring this down. I'm hoping that once my bp improves it will be likewise for the protein in my urine. I'm 33.

I am waiting for an appointment at the diabetic clinic at the hospital for a thorough review of the above. In the meantime my doctor (gp) is working to get my bp down & I am working to keep my bs in control.

I hope your sister improves - what are the doctors doing now?
