Clinical trial: acupuncture and blood sugar level.

We are performing a clinical trail to establish the effect of acupunture treatment upon the blood sugar level and insulin intake of diabetics with type one diabetes.

We are inviting participation in the study.

The study will be performed in Cape Coral, Florida, and will last 10 weeks.

Yeah, just in case you guys aren't getting poked with needles enough already, now you can have more! Sounds like fun.

I am curious. What makes you think that acupuncture would help blood sugar levels?

Clinical trial: acupuncture and blood sugar level

Hi Jon,
Yeah more needles! Only 36/38g tho'

What make me think it help blood sugar levels is that EVERY one of my diabetic patients, that's somewhere around 75 to 100 has had to reduce their meds because they were getting low BS from having treatment. A few (3 so far) are in complete remission for several years.
So quantifying this is important to me.

I would be interested in the results of this study. Unfortunately, Florida is a little bit out of the way for me. Are all of your patients type 1?

Jon,

No, not all my diabetic patients are type one, but at this point, performing the study on diabetics with type one who use injectable insulin as their only med to control BS level will make the results of the test very measurable.

I'm a 1.5 and have enough sick days accrued so that I could come and stay with you.
It is starting to get cold up here. Perhaps you could call on your brother/cousin, Rupert?

Got an extra room?:smartass:

Seriously, though, like Jon, I would be very much interested in the results of your study.

I'm a 1.5, too.

I read have read about the benefits of accupuncture treatment in The Diabetic Male's Essential Guide to Living Well. If I lived in FL, I would definitely be interest in your study.

Yeah, sure. Forgive me if I sound a bit skeptical, but 5-6 shots a day aren't enough for me - I want more! Anyone ever had an EMG? More needles? - NO THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heather, please know that acupuncturist generally use 34-38 gauge needles and most patients are very surprised how easy the process is. My attitude about it is, if there is a 20% chance of a complete cure (that's current stats) and 95% chance of improvement in terms of insulin dosage and complications, it has to be more than worthwhile.
