Angry Is it because I'm having a bad day or...

... do I have every reasons to be upset and angry?!??

Hello everyone!

And I was hesitant, didn't know if I should post this here or elsewhere. There should be a thread where we could vent...!!!

Went in this morning for my annual blood test and such. The nurse didn't put gloves on. I was taken aback a little... and asked if she had forgotten to put them on. The look she gave me!

I wasn't the first she took blood from... and I wasn't going to be the last one either that day! Isn't it for her own protection too?!?? And I didn't see her wash her hands before. Should I give her the benefit of the doubt? I was under the impression that as a rule, they HAD to wear gloves. And she was handling urine samples too. I know I carefuly clean the outside of my little bottle but what about other patients?!??

So am I just being a difficult patient or what? Or just having a bad day and finding every little reasons to be mad, angry, and upset with people?

And she hurt me too! Think she did it on purpose...

Ack!

Marie

It sounds like you have reason to be irritated. When the nurses here "come, I vant to take your bluhd" they generally don't wear gloves but they do wash their hands, I think---now you've got me wondering

Thanks a lot Marie

I think by law they have to wear gloves. The certainly should - a new pair for each patient! You have a right to be concerned and say something. It's for your protection and theirs as well. You can complain to the lab or doctor, and if nothing changes, you could probably register an anonymous complain w/ the health department or whoever deals with those types of issues. One word of advice, though, don't ever tick off the nice lady (or gentleman) w/ the needle before she/he sticks you. I've heard the techs talking and laughing about sticking people "good" who were rude or nasty to them.

That reminds me of when I was in the Diabetes Hospital. They would take blood several times a day and everyone there had a big bruise basically from the elbow all the way to the wrist. They even took blood from my hands a few times when the bruising got really bad.
