Weight Watchers

For those that have done this diet, what are/was your thoughts on it?

I lost 45 lbs. on it! Thought it was very flexible. Two of my favourite things are coffee and popcorn and I didn't have to give up either of them. It's a little time consuming at first because I wrote EVERYTHING down - to make myself accountable for everything that went into my mouth, but after a while it just became routine. Exercise was a huge part of it too though. We bought a treadmill and I worked out (hard) on it every single day - never missed. (660 calories a day I burned on the treadmill) It took me about 4 1/2 months to lose the weight but I'm not sure how long it would have taken if I hadn't been exercising so much.

I did WW two or three times. I lost about 30 pounds the first time but eventually gained it back. The subsequent times I just "couldn't" get behind it. If I were you I would read the scientific studies about the number of people who suceed in keeping weight off before I did a "pay for weight loss diet". There is an abundance of books out there of weight loss to give you basic info and There is OA for a suppot group that is really cheap (I believe in support groups regardless of affiliation). The "top rated" weight loss program, acording to some scientific studies is the book by Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., "Volumetrics". She is a Dietition, the Guthrie Chair of Nutrition at Penn State, past President of the Assn. for Study of Obisity and Society for Study in Ingestive Behavior and has served on the advisory Board for NIH's Institute of Diabetes, Digestion and Kidney Health. She presents a humaine program. I don't own stock in anthing having to do with her.

I have been on and off WW for years. It's not worked for me since I plateau at around 15# of loss.... Something switches in my head, more than the diet doesn't work. The major thing I didn't like was sticking around for the meetings after the weigh-ins. I also didn't like that my favorite coffee cost me 13 points a day...which is more than half the points I was allowed! LOL

It works for a lot of people though. Especially if you are one who likes to journal everything you do. That's another thing I hated. I don't journal. I rely on my meter uploads for journaling. I don't want to write down everything I eat and how many points they are... I was just a bad WW member! LOL

works as long as you stick to it!

I am a lifetime member of WW and have lost weight each time. My problem is MYSELF....you DO have to stick to it....even on maintenance. I also have the problem that the one person noted....my plateau seems to be around 20#. I was just diagnosed with diabetes, and my dr. wants me to regulate it with diet. I have not yet seen the diabetes educator, and I am not sure how the limits on WW relate to the Diabetic Exchange. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

I tried it when they introduced it at work and it was effective and I lost weight. But, I couldn't follow it because of my diet. I'm from India and I couldn't count points for Indian food effectively. So I pretty much starved most of the time to attain my weight goals. I know a handful of people at work doing weight watchers and lost and kept the weight off for years.

My sister has used Weight Watchers and lost weight twice on it. Sadly, once she went back to her old habits, she gained weight back. The good news is she never rebounded past her starting weight.

I attend weekly for the weigh-in's...I don't really consider it a diet as I strongly believe this is how most people should eat. (They don't like to call it a diet either)

On the other hand, my point allotment for the day is only about 19 which I find difficult to live with some days when I need to correct for low's...so I sort of use the weigh-in and watch my own portion sizes.

It is a good reminder to not snack excessively and ask yourself "why am I about to eat those nacho's"....etc. I also eat much less than I did a year ago...I've lost about 6 lbs solid but trying to lose a total of 13 or so....so yes, it's been beneficial to me.

I think it's excellent for diabetics...just don't listen to the "I am cured" stories people like to tell...I don't bring up my Type 1 in class, as most people know enough to be dangerous about diabetes. But, I have met several Type 2's and we talk "off to the side" about doctors, Byetta, and such. Nice people.

I'm not a big fan of organized, pay for it weight loss groups. I've tried both Weight Watchers and TOPS. And with both gained back more than I lost as soon as I drifted away from the group. With TOPS it was costing me more than just the meetings, we always went out for a meal afterwards...and lots of the folks were blowing a week's worth of eating well in that one night. Plus there were all the little gifts and cards that seemed to be required to show support for other members. Weight Watchers didn't have that part of it though, and their food plan is very balanced.

I seem to be doing better doing my own thing this time. Keeping a journal, that I record basic food intake, blood sugar, blood pressure & weight is really helping to keep me on track.

I have been on WW for 2 months now. I have lost almost 8 pounds. I am on the Flex plan and I track my foods online with WW etools, which is free if you have a monthly pass to the weight watchers meetings.

I have also been able to lower my TDD of insulin from 75u or so to usually under 60u.

I've also learned to visit several meetings in my area. Not all "leaders" are motivational...I lucked out with a wonderful, fun group. But shop around. I was in a terrible, depressing groups in a Chicago suburb...then changed and saw a big difference.

I tired WW and Nutri-Systems and such and never was able to stick with it. Since joining this forum and learning the right foods to eat for my BG, I have lost 30 lbs in 4 months!!! Low carb diabetic lifestyle is best! Work in some exercise too!

This is my 4th time back to WW, and I do not view it as a diet, but as a change in the way I eat. I have lost 20 # since the end of January....so who knows what my sugar was before I started. BUT....what I want to know is how you "marry" the WW program and the the way we are to eat with diabetes. Since I have been monitoring my sugar (2 wks) I have noticed that if I eat more protein (meat) and vegetables, my sugar levels are more consistent. But the protein amoutn is more than I should eat on WW. And how do I adjust the carbs? HELP!
