Exclamation Need To Get On The Bandwagon!!!

Hi! My name is Dorrie...I have not posted here since last year. I do post at a different site but it is not really for diabetics..they just have a section for it and there are very few members that use it...maybe 4 in total! I feel I need more help and they can offer me...more support!
I was dx'ed Oct 06...Type 2.
I have struggled with the disease and the changes I need to make. I have put on 50 pounds.....some prior to dx after I started antidepressants and the rest since my dx. I am only 5 feet tall and weigh just over 200 lbs. I am miserable but for whatever stupid reason lack the motivation required to eat healthy and lose weight. I have tried to lose but 3-4 water pounds later it stops and it is a struggle that gets no where.
I am attempting to get off the antidepressants and believe that it will help a bit...but it takes time to stop these pills.
I take metformin and glyberide...but get alot of low sugars...if I reduce my meds I go too high so I snack a fair bit.
I am a grama and my granddaughter lives with me...she is 1 year old and does keep me hopping!!!
What is your experience...what made you decide to put your health first...I need to get there...I know that if I do not then I will suffer but ahhh it is so hard to make the necessary changes!

Hey there welcome to DF, sorry to hear you are having a hard time, for me its simply because once you take care of it you dont have to worry about it as much. Or rather you do but to a lesser degree. Thats what I find anyhow, also you gotta stay healthy so you can keep track of your granddaughter Take care of yourself, hope you find what your looking for here.

Hey Dorrie... another Canuck! Welcome to DF! So glad you found us.
For me, posting regularly here is a big motivation... helpful supportive folks but also I don't want to let any of them down. Ultimately your aim should be to be healthy for your own sake, but in the meantime I'd agree that your Grand-Daughter must be a pretty good reason to take good care of yourself

Dorrie, do you think the weight gain was because of Effexor? Does type 2 diabetes run in your family at all? The forums are a great place for help, encouragement, friendship and information. Glad to see you a board!

Hi Dorrie, keep positive...it's really hard for me too sorting all of this out. I went to the library and checked out some books to educate myself. Take it one day at a time and maybe sit down and write one goal for yourself to tackle this week. Maybe get your granddaughter in the stroller and walk just a little bit to begin with. I noticed I get lower numbers (for me) better when I walk after supper then doing an exercise video or the bike. My granddaughter lives with us also and I know what a challenge that in itself can be. She's sort of my moral booster, everytime I look at her face I keep reminding myself I have to make these changes if not for me for her. You can do it!!!

Thanks everone!! Yes Brion I do think the effexor is the problem..that is part of the reason I need to go off of it. Today is day 3 of cutting back on the effexor and I am a little anxious but I know that it is OK...I just breathe!! So far no extreme side effects!!! Also diabetes is in every generation of our family...has been for the last4 or 5 at least!! BUMMER!!
