| | Diet sodas are 0 Carbs and 0 cals. So it won't increase your blood sugar. I also make it a point that I drink caffein free diet soda. When there is no caffein, you can include it in your daily water intake quota
Test for your BS level before and a few minutes after you finish a diet soda.

| | Hi,
When I was DX'ed my Doctor told me to get off all soda's, I was pretty much addicted to Diet Coke. I did stay off it for about 6 months, save the odd occasion when I was out with friends and driving so would not be drinking and would have a glass of it. Recently I have been drinking it a bit more and find that while it doesn't impact on my BG that I do feel bloated from it.
There's an old thread where I asked about it, which you may want to read: http://www.diabetesforums.com/forum/...tml#post294669

| | | I have a 20 oz Diet Mtn Dew every morning...I don't drink coffee, and this gives me the morning "jolt" that I need.
The rest of the day I drink water or water with the s/f add-ins. I also drink hot and iced tea with artificial sweetener.
While i'm sure plain water is the healthiest way to go, I enjoy having a few more choices....and I don't notice blood sugar elevations...though sometimes I do think the diet drinks make us hungrier than plain water (perhaps it triggers our "sweet tooth" or something).

I think we should avoid diet drinks with phosphoric acid due to its probable depletion of bone calcium. Most colas have it so I drink an occasional Diet 7UP which contains citric acid. Women especially should consider this idea. |

| | Have you considered a DIY kit for homemade soda? I found one with flavor syrups that are made with Splenda. The taste is great! And, they don't mess with my BS readings.

| | | As long as you're not a phenylketuronic, then I think you should be fine with diet sode. However, I'm trying to cut diet soda out of my life. There is a lot of info on the web that talks of whether or not phenylalanine is actually good for ingestion. |

I just discovered Boylan Bottleworks diet sodas. They come in a 12 ounce glass bottle, on the pricey side, sweetened with sucralose. I've tried both the cola and black cherry flavours and like both.

| | I was once addicted to Diet coke with Lime Yummy stuff But, I have since given up drinking all pop, and I feel better, and I lost weight when going off of it. Pop makes you retain water.

In the "old days" pre-diabetes I used to make homemade rootbeer from time to time. | Here is a LINK to the one I buy from. As I said, the diet syrups use Splenda so I don't get a spike. The Diet Rootbeer they have is one of the best I have ever tasted. That and the Diet Orange are my favorites. Actually, out of the 8 diet flavors I have . . . they ALL taste pretty good. None of them are stinkers.
(I hope the mods let the link stand. I do not make money from it. It is just so rare to find a product that actually tastes good that is not out to kill us. )

The phosphoric acid in cola-type sodas (both regular and diet, so any coke or pepsi or generic brand cola) steals calcium from your bones. With osteoporosis rates as high as they are (especially for women), I try to avoid these most of the time now.
Caffeine is a natural diuretic, so whatever water is in the beverage is basically negated by the caffeine. Also, I believe diabetics (type 2, anyway) are more prone to high blood pressure, and caffeine isn't good for the blood pressure and can cause an increase in blood glucose levels for some people.
All that said, I still drink diet soda every day I opt for diet ginger ale and diet orange soda, both of which are phosphoric acid and caffeine free.
