Diabetic smores, mmm!

I was wondering, since it's summer and camping season and all, if anyone knew of a good way to make diabetic-friendly smores? I haven't seen sugar-free marshmallows in the stores, only online. I was wondering if anyone knew of any store brand sugar-free marshmallows? Or had any tips on how to still enjoy a good fire and stuff my face without letting my bg's go too balistic?

I was going to say why not just get the real stuff like real chocolate and marshmallows and just limit yourself but I see you want to stuff your face so I won't be of no help. Do you have any leftover or emergency insulin sitting around in your fridge? If you do eat away and just cover with the insulin. Gotta love insulin!

That's what was so nice about insulin . . . just take that extra shot and here comes that bowl of ice cream! Or half a box of cookies . . . or that bag of jelly beans . . . or . . .

Ok I'm going to stop now.

That's the problem though! I assume I can have everything and anything because of insulin but I have to remember the more I eat the more insulin I have to take and the more weight I gain. I in a way wish I were on pills because it would definately stop me from abusing some things such as Starbucks.

Btw, my doctor had a rough time diagnosing me as well. First it was T2 then T1 and when I questioned it a couple months ago my doctor responded with "Well let's put you on pills and find out!" That was the dumbest thing he could have said knowing if I went a whole day without insulin I would be dead or very ill.

Or a box of mini butterfingers at the movies this weekend (87 carbs). Yikes - that's almost double my daily target! But I did bolus correctly for it.

cheers,
j

See, I wouldn't be worried about the 87g of carb, but rather the fat.
what was your bs hours later?

This comment wasn't directed at me, but today I ate something truly worthless - funnel cake. 85g of carbs and 40+g of fat. I did a dual wave bolus and it worked out almost okay but what I forgot to do was up the bolus just a little. The pump suggests a bolus based solely on carbs but when I have something with that much fat I always need a little more insulin. I took about 2/3 up front and 1/3 over 4 hours. At around hour 3 I was just slightly out of range but went a little higher by hour 4 (172 I think). I took a small correction even though my pump showed enough IOB and that brought me back down into range and I haven't gone high since. I actually ended up really low after dinner (35) which was weird.

The funnel cake was extremely tasty but I really overdid it, and it sat in my stomach for hours. I went and took a 75 minute walk to try to minimize the damage.

A little high at 148 when I checked 4 hours later, but not too far off my current target of 120. Took a .70 correction bolus, and was pretty happy that I was that close, considering what a massive carb bomb it was.

cheers,
j

I'm laughing so hard at this. Oh dear.

Anyway, I couldn't find sugar free marshmallows on time. I saw them online and would have ordered them but was leaving too soon to get them in time so . . . I just ate regular, good ole fashioned smores. Mmm mmm they were so good. I ate four the first night we camped, three the second, two the third, and two the fourth. I was a bad bad girl! But my fasting blood sugars were only about 20 points higher than they usually were in the morning. I lived I guess and I don't regret them. How often do you go camping, right?
