| | | 1 piece flax or saw-dust bread, natural PB, homemade jelly (sweet!), and 1 cup 1% milk. I handle it very well with a pre-bolus.
Today I had homemade (scratch!) punkin pie. It has almost the full sugar, but it behaves very well too. Pumpkin is low sugar and high fibre.
In my experience quantity is much more important than quality in controlling post prandials. |

| | | This morning, I had a high-protein chocolate drink (EAS Carb Advantage) and a few slices of cantaloupe. When I have time, i'll have a couple scrambled eggs with a couple pieces of bacon or a South Beach high-protein cereal bar.
Also, no rule that says you have to have breakfast foods for b/fast. I'll sometimes eat some turkey or ham wrapped around cheese, or have a spoon of peanut butter and an apple. I've had a couple of turkey franks (no bun) as well.

| | | There's no rule that says you have to eat breakfast either. Sometimes I'll skip it, but that throws my liver into a tizzy and I need to at least double my lunchtime boluses. I find it very doable to skip then have a light snack in mid-morning. You have to test the **** out of these situations to find what works for you. |

When I took my metformin twice daily (instead of just at bedtime like I do now), if I didn't eat, I'd feel nauseous AND go low...not a fun combination. Before diabetes, i'd never eat breakfast and do fine.

So this is a huge change that I am eating three times a day....Since the diagnose on 9/11/07 I am eating three times.. wow.. that is a huge change in my life. |

| | | Today it was a monster sized bowl of cereal with whole milk.
I usually have a whole quiche in the fridge that I can heat a piece of if I have time. Usually I just grab a slice of and eat cold when I need to run.
On the weekends I have what Capt Dave had.

| | | I am having a really hard time with my morning glucose readings. When I test at 3-4am my sugar will be normal (6.0), then by 7 am it rises to approx. 10.0. I do 2u of humalog to correct and it has almost no effect.
I usually inject 1u humalog /15 grams carbs.
In the am it is more like 3u/15 grams and I still spike really high before the humalog seems to work.
I am running out of ideas here. Its infuriating.
Whats almost worse is that if I skip breakfast, the phenomenon seems to transfer to the first meal I eat (i.e. lunch). Then when I eat my lunch at 12 pm I have to use the higher insulin to carb ratio and again I still get a spike in blood sugar.
I'm not sure what to try next. Any ideas????
I am currenbtly on 32 u of lantus at 1pm and bolus humalog as necessary with a humalog to carb ration of 1u:15g typically.
Thanks. |

| | | Usually it's one or two pieces of toasted light wheat bread (Stop & Shop brand) with spray butter or a small amount of peanut butter. Coffee with one Equal and lots of light cream.
Sometimes I'll make an omelet the night before and take that into work with me for breakfast. Also, Special K Protein Plus with Hoods Calorie Countdown Milk (3g carbs), a packet of Equal and a handful of walnuts fills me up and barely raises my blood sugar.
