Forgot I was diabetic (for 10 minutes)

Had some friends that just stopped by and decided to make lunch for them with unused stuff from my superbowl party. Fired up the grill and threw on some Johnsonville Brats (3 grams carbs each). Got to standing around the grill and talking, threw the buns on to toast (32 grams of carbs) Squirted on some ketchup (2 grams maybe) and downed two of them (with buns!!!) while standing around chatting, before I remembered I have not eaten a SINGLE SLICE of bread in 11 months!!! It just never entered my mind that I only eat 20-30 grams of carbs a day. I have had weird cravings for things, and poached off my diet a few times, (with plenty of subsequent blood sugar excursion and guilt) but this is the first time I've just eaten something without thinking about it AT ALL since I was diagnosed. I guess it's a good thing I didn't have a bag of potato chips laying around as well just wondering if this has ever happend to anyone else??
Ultra blonde diabetic moment.... I was somewhat blonde years ago before I went gray, I guess the genes are still intact

Cheers,
Mike

It happens too frequently with me. Especially when I am planning for my family meals. It's so easy to just fall back into the old ways. As long as you realized it, you can start fresh again!

I think it is pretty common! My biggest problem is I bake goodies for the family and cook things I know I cant eat. If Im distracted whole cooking sometimes I do eat a cookie or take a big swipe out of a brownie bowl before I catch myself. Its more and more a habit to be totally aware of carbs as time goes on, but every once in awhile as I swipe a ketchup covered french fry off hubbys plate at Chili's I catch the look of alarm in his eyes and realize what I just did!

I don't have anything bad to tempt me in my house although when I do get chocolate I usually eat the entire thing (dark 85%). I don't think I’ve ever totally forgotten I’m a diabetic, it’s always in the back of my mind making me feel guilty for eating X

I'm blonde, but my mother acts much blonder than I do & she's brown-headed!! Yeah, the gray coverage just hides that you are ditsy . . . just kidding. I can't recall doing anything like that. But there is a lot I can't recall!
