Can novolog and lantus make u gain weight?

Ok i take 20-30 units of novolog before meals usually 3 times a day. An 50 units of lantus in the morning. Is this considered alot of insulin and will it make we gain weight? When i took regular and nph i weighed 190 now 4 months in i weight 200lbs. I run 6 miles a day and lift weights. Any input would be appreciated.

I wonder this about all insulin. I run a lot too and find that I still have to watch what I eat. I am not over weight, but I don't need to gain any weight either. Are you lifting more? Maybe you are just increasing the amount of muscle you have although 10 lbs of muscle in four months sounds like a lot. I assume no changes in eating habits? These are all just guesses though.

Insulin is the anabolic hormone. So, yes, if you use more than your body needs you will gain weight. I weigh myself every day and, if it is moving out of the desired range, I adjust insulin/food.

Try eating low-carb. Eating less carbohydrate will enable you to reduce your insulin dosages. Doing this also puts ypur body into fat burning mode. It makes losing weight a lot easier.

Hi Drifter,

I was going to say pretty much exactly what Blue Sky said. He is spot-on in my opinion. The only thing I would add is a reminder of the triumverate: Insulin, Food, Exercise. They all have to balance one way or another to not gain weight.

It seems that the better control I have, the more chance I have of gaining weight...Reasons: water goes where sugar and salt goes and now the calories can be used or NOT...and stored as FAT!

Yes, as you get better control, you need to eat fewer carbs, because you are using the food efficiently.

I have an A1c of 4.9, and have lost 37 lbs since last March, so don't think it can't be done! I cut my daily carb intake from 150 to 75.

I switched from metformin to lantus and novolog a month ago and gained 9 lbs within the first two weeks.
