| | | Fruits and sugar content.... Sorry if it has been asked before, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Basically what I am looking for is some kinda list of fruits that are safe to eat. I know grapes become pure sugar, but are Granny Smith apples considered safe to eat for Diabetics?
I go to the heath food store, but to me it is buyer beware, because more and more they are stocking stuff that is NOT healthy (I remember the days as a kid when my mother took me and I hated everything there). I love Fiji Apples, but short of testing them myself, would like to see if they are safe before hand (would rather find out before spiking myself, lol). |

| | | Marc, we all have different carb tolerances, therefore, we'll all tolerate fruits differently. I can have a small apple (any kind) w/o problems. Grapes, more than 4-5 and I go high. I tolerate cantaloupe and honey dew melon very well, same with cherries, blueberries, strawberries. A small banana is also okay for me, though I know many can't eat them.
My advice would be to try your fruit of choice and then check you blood sugar to see how YOU tolerate it.

| | | Thanks, always wondered why I never saw a chart any where, and it makes sense (what you said). Will buy one of every type of apple I want to try, and test before, and a few times after. |

| | | When I have apples or other fruits, i'll often pair them with cheese...I think the protein keeps the blood sugar from rising as much...and I like cheese with fruit...win/win.
I like the tart, granny smith apples as well as the pink-ladies...if I end up with really big apples, hubby and I will often share.

| | | I eat lots of different fruits, but I limit the quantities to one fruit per. I find adding a second shoots me up where I can easily tolerate one ofs. |

| | | It might be the fat in the cheese that keeps the glucose from going to high.

| | | As Princess said, it's different for each person, because you don't have my pancreas & I don't have yours.
Papaya is OK with me.
Small oranges & tangerines are OK
Bananas are not, so I eat, a half at a time, regardless of size.
Try eating half of any fruit, if possible then go from there.
