Does anyone else get full 2 hours after eating?

I'm usually still a little hungry after eating...like I need desert to finish the meal. However, if I wait 2 hours I'm fine. Anyone else have this experience?

Depends on what I have. If it's something "Bulky" I'm generally fine. Wendy's Jr. Cheeseburger isn't enough by itself, but if I throw in a side salad, I'm stuffed.

If it's not filling or too bland, then, yes, I feel as if I need more to eat.

It's a bit psychological hardwiring that in prehistoric times would have helped you survive. The brain is designed to make you more hungry according to the amount of available flavours. This is so that overall you eat a wide variety of things and thus get a wide variety of nutrients.

That's why you feel fuller when you eat bland food and why you eat far too much when you have a BBQ or a buffet. Or why after a big meal, you've always got room for dessert. It's not that you're genuinely hungry, it's just that your brain knows you've got something that tastes different to your main meal lying around.

Also, the waiting time means that your brain has longer to react to a full stomach. It takes a while for your brain to catch up with the contents of your stomach, which is why for the first 20mins of eating, you're starving, and then suddenly you feel less full.

That's why if you ever do an eating challenge, NEVER pace yourself. Just ram the whole pizza/burger/steak in there as quick as you can and then go hide in the toilets for a bit after collecting your prize. It's also why people in the 50s were told to chew their food thoroughly - you eat less but feel just as full.

I had a salad today. I feel so full. I love having a latte or iced coffee mid afternoon also. It's delicious and makes you feel like you are having a treat!

Right after I eat dinner I have to have a coffee or an iced coffee. If I don't then I feel like I'm starving. This is the only course that it happens.

There are some days, I feel like I'll never be full- I'm that hungry .

But most days, I can control my appetite... I tend to eat a lot of salads too . They are good, not only b/c they tend to be pretty low cal/carb/fat, but also b/c they pack in a lot of fiber which can make you feel full on a relatively lite meal. Diet experts typically recommend that you order salad or soup with your meals when eating out, b/c they fill you up so you won't overeat on your main course.

Just watchout ...sometimes fiber can make you bloat, among other things

yep, I regularly experience this. I put it down to having to wait for the blood glucose to go up to a level which my body recognises to mean that I've eaten something.

I eat a diet of complex carbohydrates to avoid spikes and to supply steadily over a period of time, the energy I need to function.

If I eat more while I am still hungry, I get over-full and then sleepy.

I also have to balance all that with not eating too many calories, or I put on weight.

Fun isn't it.

I eat 4 or 5 smaller meals a day so I never feel stuffed and I
normally do not eat dessert. But once a week we go to a rest-
aurant or order in. Then I eat just 'til I'm full and take the extra
Insulin to counteract it.

I had this problem for a long time. Then I started forcing myself to slow down while eating anything. I try to put my fork down between each bite and take at least 20 minutes to eat. It just takes time for the brain to get the message that you are full. I also found that if I wait 20 or 30 minutes when I have a craving for something sweet, it goes away. If I can get myself engrossed in somethinglike reading or a job that takes some consentration it helps, too. If I still have the craving after the time, I have some of what I am craving, if I don't, I feel deprived and overeat other things.

Sometimes feeling really full two hours after a meal can be a sign that your blood sugar has skyrocketed, so test your blood sugar you might need to top off your insulin dose (if you're on insulin that is).

I was 122 premeal and ...143 2 hours after. Please feel free to applaud! I think it may be the fiber in the salad giving me the full feeling. Yeah! Salad is my new best friend!

I tend to be hungry 2 hours after To be serious I have found it depends what I eat and when I eat it, and as said before so much seem psychological, I have always found if I am concentrating hard on something then hunger takes a back seat - not good for diabetes.

More on hunger....

Adding on to the hunger topic...After my diagnosis 3 1/2 months ago as type 2...I have lost 45 pounds...

It's the "dr. scared the heck out of me diet".... (mainly a veggie and chicken diet)...

What I did worry about was that the other weekend I kind of cheated all
weekend because I was STARVING. Not the regular hunger pains...I mean STARVING hungry. Even after I ate my stomach was growling. (My diet has not really bothered me so far though) I figured that I would have gained a couple of pounds by Monday morning..but when I weighed myself on Monday, I had lost 5 pounds during that weekend.

I became worried since I never have that kind of luck..I guess I will mention it to the Dr. next week when I go in. Any one else have that happen to them?
