Pre-Exercise BG, snack

Hey there guys and gals,

I play a lot of table tennis and I have a hard time finding a good pre-exercise meal / snack to eat before playing. I usually disconnect before playing but yesterday I felt so tired after only 5 games. This is not the norm but wanted to know if anyone here eats a certain protein bar or power shake before exercise.

I usually eat two banannas before disconnecting and my BG is usually in the 100 - 125 region. I drink lots of H2O during play.

thanks again.
Vic

Hi Vic,

My normal exercise time is in the evening. Usually I eat dinner then have to wait an hour or so. Maybe some of the others can offer a suggestion.

Wow! 5 games is a lot! I do my exercise in late afternoon or early evening. I eat a small snack high in protein about a half hour before. Usually some cheese and crackers or peanut butter crackers. Then afterwards I eat my supper. But then again, I dont do 5 games of tinnis!

Perhaps, Vic L, you might allow time to eat something while switching ends. PB crackers or something of the sort. Combination
of Carbs and protein.

Maybe set a routine of X number of crackers at 3-7-11 games?

I had the same problem...so my doc suggested and it works to put in a temp basal 1 hours before exercies. If that wasn't good enough keep uping the time until I got it right. So 2 hours before I go I set a temp basal of 0 and I do just fine

When I do cardio exercising, I need a simple carb like an orange juice to raise my bgs quickly and a complex carb like a zone bar to maintain my bgs over a 2 hr. period. Also need to eat afterwards to avoid a low. The zone bars contain a good ratio 40/30/30 of carb/prot/fats so one can lose wt. and maintain a good bg while exercising.*g*
