| | Walking Just Curious,
I know a lot of diabetics prefer different exercise programs. The variety of exercise makes us individuals.
I find that a slower paced, and more self-directed exercise, at least for me, is walking. I have read that certain forms of exercise (and one that comes to mind, is running or jogging), tends to cause stress and trauma to one's feet.
I have experienced foot problems, having had flat feet for a "long" time, truthfully, for as long as I can recall.
My question, what do others do to exercise. Living in a warm climate, I am able to walk, be it indoors (in a mall), or outdoors, pretty much year round.
I am also curious about how often others exercise, be it daily, or less frequently.

| | | I walk daily also whether it's outside or at work or a nice warm mall. I generally start day off with at least half hour of stationary biking as I think the exercise guidelines now say that you should increase your heart rate so your body gets the most benefits from the exercise as possible. I also use wts. to get some more exercise.
Anyhow, the body and insulin work much better in an active person than when you're inactive.
I have tried lots of insulins and had to walk 5-8 m/day to get Humalog to work properly without any resistance. Pork insulins seem to work the best without any resistance but am now trying
Novorapid to see how I like that.

| | | My husband and I were walking about 3 miles a day just about every day of the week until last year. The weather got cold, and we stopped and never got back into it. I did lose about 15 pounds during that time, which was great!
Thinking about getting a treadmill.........................

| | | I walk every day that the weather permits. I walk 3 miles at anywhere from 15 minutes to 12 minutes per mile. I've never lost an ounce of weight from it though.

| | | I agree.
The importance of establishing a place to walk and including the necessary warm-up and cool-down period as part of your exercise program is also important.
The warm-up and cool-down period help to prevent injury to muscles that could be injured, if you were to exercise "cold".

| | ... a question for you treadmill users : I've heard you get easily bored of it and end up using less and less. Is that true?
I walk daily. I used to take brisk walks, rain or shine. I don't know why I let rain get in the way of getting exercice... it won't make me melt after all

| | | Funny, I gave my tread mill away.......
In addition to walking, we take that extra step(ha ha) and park in a parking spot a ways away from the door. As opposed to always trying to find the closest spot. (I mean at any shopping place)
Take care all,

| | | I like both of these ideas. For treadmill and exercise bike use, I sit in front of the big screen tv, put on a video or dvd, and relax and enjoy myself.
I will walk up or down the stairs at work, instead of using the elevator, and also, tend to park away from things and walk.
The exercise is good, and keeps me fit.

| | | Well Chuck, I have had a treadmill since Nov or December of last year and I do get a little bored of it, but I always try to keep on it anyhow. I try to keep loud music going, or the tv and that helps me. |

| | | I don't have a car so I'm pretty much reduced to walking every day, although I don't particularly count walking as exercise - it's just a way of getting from A to B.
As for exercise, I went through a time of doing sod all (and didn't actually put on any more than about 4lbs in a year), but now that summer's coming round I'm back doing weights at the gym 3 times a week and usually do some cardio to warm down. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
