I worked out with the grippers, the 18-lb. stone, and a sledgehammer. Also did some bicep curts with a dumbbell.

Tomorrow, I run.

Cool

Sunday, May 20th.

Ran 13 miles in 1:43. Slowed a bit near end, but overall it was a decent run.

Blood sugar at start: 121
After 5 miles: 124
End: 102

Sounds like a good run. It helps some that you're a 1.5 right now and you still have some native insulin production. But it sounds like you should be good to go with the half-marathon coming. I'm just guessing, but you might find that you'll run the race harder, which might spike you a bit higher, then cause a bit more a drop afterwards.

Yesterday, I did a 5K, so I ran a bit longer than my recovery plan might have called for, although I've got some margin built into it to keep my ankle safe. Plus, I'm resting both today and tomorrow. Anyhow, what I wanted to get to is that relatively speaking I ran that 5K yesterday pretty hard, up near my anaerobic threshold and in 3 miles my blood sugar went from 101 mg/dl to 183 mg/dl.

It's been my general observation the first 30 to 40 minutes of hard running spike my blood sugars up. After that, the blood sugar will begin dropping.

Just got done working out my forearms and grip using a sledgehammer, an 18-lb stone, and a 24-lb stone. Amazing what fun things can be done with those things.

When I was finally done with everything, I alternately soaked my hands in baths of cold and hot water. It was a heck of a workout, will probably have to rest things until Friday.

after putting up with another air head at the local gym, I set a record for myself and stacked (105 lbs) the preacher curl machine 16 reps. By far the most since my stroke. Also did 100 lbs on lat raises for 12 reps and shoulder shrugs. Whole routine took 45 minutes. Yay, me!

Tuesday 22nd May
4 miles treadmill 40:17. I was trying to do 10 minute miles but had to slow down to take a dextrose tablet. I would love to be able to run at this speed outside.

I ran easy for 30 minutes this morning. Now I'm going to take another two full days of rest before doing some more easy running on Saturday. I had planned on only doing 2 runs this week in consideration of how hard I was going to run that 5K this last Sunday.
