Exercise Timing

Hi all,

When do you exercise? I know some are proponents of morning routines, while others exercise later in the day. Although it goes against almost everything I've ever read or been taught, I find it better for me to work out in the evenings. I subscribe to the theory of: It doesn't matter when as long as it is done.

I usually do it in the evenings because its cooler. Sometimes I'll do it in the morning. I rarely do it in the afternoon during the summer months (which in Alabama is year round).

Travis,
I always exercise in the late afternoon because I am NOT a morning person! I have also heard many people say it is best to exercise in the mornings, but I really don't know why. I tend to feel better after exercising in the afternoon .

I used to excercise in the mid-morning to help get my sugars down because I was always in the 200's. More recently I've found that excercising in the late afternoon/early evening works well due to more predictable b/s levels.

p.s. my a.m. sugars are down to a more healthy/normal range these days

I mostly exercise in the morning, unless I go to the gym after work. I have noticed that when I miss a morning, I tend to drag my butt through the day.

Working out in the early evening can be beneficial; it helps one sleep at night. In fact, it's recommended for people with insomnia.

I start off walking a mile in the morning at work. Then I do a walking taping after school with a friend. This last week I have been doing it about 8 and my bg has been alot better in the morning.

my exercise mainly constitutes walking and i try to fit it into my daily routine,ie...i do a 4 mile walk with my dogs b4 bf and the same after tea (around 5pm)...as well as that,i walk at least a 1/2hr after bf and lunch to try and keep a handle on the pp rises.these walks are just school runs and shops which i'd do whether i had diabetes or not.Any rise from the liver after my morning walk is taken care of with the insulin and bf so this way of exercising suits me well.I also go swimming in the evening when i can.

On this subject, has anyone else played sport at a serious (national) level and had difficulties training before breakfast? This is now really just out of interest, but when I was younger, I spent years trying to do early morning swimming training without vomiting.
