| | motivation please what i would like to ask everyone is to help me keep motivated in the exercise department, i loose motivation really easily and just need to be kicked into shape every now and then.
last weight in i was 5 foot and weighted in at 103 kg(never was small) God i hate my genes, my mother was the same and she only ever ate a boiled egg every day (yeap nothing else) and she never lost any weight.

| | | My suggestion is do your best to find some activity that you'll love to do. Exercise should be fun, in my opinion. That's the key, I think, finding an activity which tickles the endorphins and the brain so you feel good while doing it. |

| | I hate gyms... and I joined one!
The kids wanted to join the gym and there was a family offer. So I joined! But I wasn't very keen about the idead until... I hired a personal trainer for six sessions. Turns out I like it and the personal trainer targeted what I wanted to achieve and she helped me tremendously in the motivation department. My kids too as a matter of fact!
I also found out I don't really like to exercise with someone else (a training buddy or whatever you call it)... but I do like to go at the same time as my kids, for example. Sometimes I have so much to do and I am already worn out but because they want to go well I go too. Sometimes it's them who don't want to go but because I am on my way to the gym well... they come too!!!
I think motivation really kicks in when you see results and you feel better. Like Scratch said you must find something you really like.
As a woman and in charge of a household, teens, a husband and working on top of everything... it is HARD to find time for myself. When I do have time for myself I just want to collapse on the sofa because I'm worn out. And when I do take time for myself I also end up with more work. Ack! Well now I don't care : I'm off to the gym. My husband will have to overcome his fear of the vacuum cleaner one of these days... |

| | My younger sister, who is 5'9" and weighs about 130 pounds (KGs?) used to tell everyone that all she ate every day was 2 hard boiled eggs. She was so thin, we believed her. Then a few years ago, I spent a day with her. Several times a day, she ate a candy bar. She didn't think that counted as eating. Now she is 45, still thin and Hypoglycemic, still eats the same way. My opinion is she will be joining us here someday.

| | | Liz,
For my self, was also one that never enjoyed exercise for the sake of just doing it.. But as I mentioned in my Lawn Mowing post, If I have something to do that gives me a result beyond the exercise I am more interested in it. Thus pushing the lawn mower about gives me a good workout as well as something to look at afterwards for my reward..
I also due to the seriousness of the situation developed a pattern of walking around the basement in winter months for exercise. I set up an old stereo and enjoy a symphony or pop record for the time I am walking, that takes my mind off it too and gives the needed extra reward to keep me moving.
Of course loosing weight and bringing down the glucose levels are rewards in them selfs, and of course the whole idea here. But if you can find something to do that your enjoying, Gardening, Biking, pushing the reel mower about, choping wood, walking to the store, what ever, it will seem less like a chore and more like a nice addition to your day.
Hope your find somehting you like. |

| | I know what you mean, i have the last of my three children at home and my partner (he works away all week, comes home Friday and goes again on Sunday) and i work full time, so making time is not very easy. although on the "large side" i love swimming and walking and have never been one not to take some form of exercise daily, but for some reason am not motivated to anything after work.
my daughter is often out with her boyfriend, so that should be the time to go to the gym but my energy seems to sag then it has often been a vaery long day by then.
so nag me i will be strong and go
THIS IS GOOD I HAVE TO BE HONEST WITH MYSELF,NO MORE EXCUSES!

| | | How's the exercise going Liz? I understand about not wanting to go after work.....I always dread that after a long day at work. However, once I go and get it over with the feeling of accomplishment is such a rush that it helps me go the next time. One day at a time....that's all we can do. Let us know how you're doing!

| | | Liz. how about hiking in your neighborhood. We always forget what's in our back yard. Do some fast paced walks through the streets of your town and others nearby. Drag one of your kids along or maybe a coworker or 12. On weekends, go to some special place. Bring your video camera, When winter comes plop the tape into the vcr and put a treadmill in front of the tv. Do the treadmill and make believe you are back to that place.

| | | I like exercise when I am doing it, but I seem to have amnesia when I am done. I also have to find something to do that I love. Right now I am walking two and a half miles a day with my dogs. The dogs get so excited when I mention the walk that I couldn't change my mind if I wanted to.
Find something that you really love doing and do it the same time every day. I like rollerblading, walking my dogs and bike riding. If you have kids go out and shoot hoops with them daily. They will appreciate the time with you.
If you hate the gym, don't waste your money on buying a membership. You have to love what you are doing and look forward to it daily. |

| | It sounds like you're making good progress and that's great to keep positively reinforcing yourself and turning it into something that you enjoy doing. That really is the key, I mean, how crazy was it that I was up this morning in the dark, rain, wind and chill to run?
I liked it. |

| | I'm sure you'll get plenty of walking in Spain and Portugal, all the really scenic cities are built on hillsides .
I do better moving my exercise to the early morning, rather than trying to fit it in after work, plus here in Florida that's the only time it's cool enough to do anything outside. |
