| | | not sure about the skin but the only way I know to get the muscle back is to exercise. I do 30 minutes of weight training every other day plus walk 3-5 miles every day my weight loss is slow but steady and my muscle mass is increasing. |

Spending more time doing weights and less time running might help with building muscle. I found that having a protein shake after workouts made a big difference. It provides the raw materials your muscles need to recover from the workout and prepare for the next one.

| | | Be sure to eat a recovery meal after exercise. A ratio of 4 grams CHO to one gram of protein has been scientifically proven to be the best match. |

From a post-workout protein shake, I normally get about 9grams of carbo from the milk with the 23 grams of whey protein That is a carb:protein ratio of 1:2.6 and it works really well.

| | well if you go onto Runsweet.com-diabetes and sport (parts of the site not quite upto date) but it will tell you how a specific sport affects your sugar levels and helps with the calculation of insulin of food intake before and after...do take note most of the information is from diabetics who undertake these sports so the effects on them might not be the same for you but its good...

| | | Hi Gabe22!
The answer to the increasing muscle mass question is simple: exercise. As to the issue of excess skin, well that depends on a lot of variables. If you are young enough then you skin may shrink back to just over the muscle mass. If you aren't all that young (like me) you will find that weight loss, combined with exercise, results in both your clothes and skin not fitting as before. The clothes can be replaced or taken in. The skin can be taken in as well but that is both painful and expensive.
I've got new clothes and the same old skin even though the skin doesn't fit, it does remind me of the 75 pounds I dropped and so I'm rather proud of my loose skin.

| | | I'm 55 and workout in a similar way. I workout with weights and in between sets I run about a quarter mile for 45 to 60minutes three days per week. Three other days I mostly run only. When I run especially hard and log in extra miles, I find my lifting strength goes down as using the same weight I can only do 6 or 7 reps as aposed to my usual 10. Also my 1 rep max goes down considerably. Running less I can lift more. I assume muscle mass is increased when concentrating more on resistance training and of course proper nutrition. I'm still trying to figure uot proper nutrition. You should never neglect your cardio. At 17 recovery should come easier to you than me at 55 so "your mileage may vary".

| | | Hi Gabe
I think at your age, your skin will shrink back, it may take a while, but just keep up the good work.. no matter what exercise you choose..it's all good and you will probably find you will move on to different activities as you progress in your fitness regime..
Good for you!
