| | Snap, Crackle, Pop? I just completed my daily walks with my dogs. After I get home and sit back down at my desk, I get this sensation in the outer sides of my thighs. Now I have had the circulation itchiness before ... this is more like there is popcorn popping under my skin! What is that, you exercise gurus? I'd like to think it is the "zapping" of all those fat cells in my thighs!

| | Oh my gosh ... I was actually right in my thoughts! YIPPEE!
What could cause a popping sensation in your legs and backside after walking on a treadmill?
In: Exercise
Answer
This sensation after exercise is a very healthy sensation, as it is caused by cellulite (small pockets of fat), popping and being dissolved. It is nothing to worry about, rather it is something you should be looking for as a reward after exercise, particularly if you have an excess amount of fat around the thigs and butt area. I've looked over the web to find more to support this theory and can't find anything. I hope whoever posted that answer was right. It sure was exactly what I had hoped it was! Maybe I'll just go ahead and believe it regardless!

| | | Fat cells only go away through surgery so that make it certain they are not dissolving. Fat cells may shrink but they do not go away. So I would not believe that answer.
I never heard of your popcorn before so I could only guess that blood is circulating through areas that it could not before due to the fat accumulation and the leg muscles have helped the process.

| | Well, whatever it is, it is still happening after a long walk. I didn't really think it was fat cells being zapped but I thought it was funny to find someone online who thought the same thing! Whatever, I can't help but feel it is a "good thing" and it means my body is at least noticing my hard work!
