BG Testing after exercise, when?

Just a quick question, how long after exercise should I test my BG levels?

I Just finished a forty five minute work out on the elliptical trainer. I tested about a half hour before, and I got a reading of 130. I did another reading after I was done, which was 120. I just started testing again in the last couple of months so I am just starting a new routine. I always test before and after so I know if I am to high (above 275) or to low (below 80). The diabetic program I went through back
when I was living in Fairfax county Virginia always stress the importance of testing before exercise because you can go into diabetic shock.

I also test before and after exercise. After I finish I take a shower and then test (about 20 mins after exercising). I am always amazed how positively exercise affects my BG's.
Today I was 6.6 before and 4.3 after.....result!

It might matter what kind of exercise you are doing. Aerobic stuff I'd check on pretty quickly especially if you work at it past the fat burning stage - usually 45-60 mins. If you are lifting, I'd wait a little longer as the effects of that kind of exercise are typically longer and slower to show.

Always a good idea to do extra tests when starting any new regimen so you can gauge how your bod will react.
