pump basals whilst exercising

One of the reasons I started the pump was to be able to adjust insulin for exercise and avoid some of the hypos I've been having. I'm finding that I need quite small amounts for exercise.
The other day, for the first time I think I got it right. My Bs was 110 before a 7 mile run and 80 at the end, I also didn't hypo later in the evening. I reduced by basal to 0.2 units an hour for 3 hours in total.(normal basal is between .45 and .55 an hour.
Yesterday I went for a hilly walk, but didn't get it right this time, I cut the basal down to .33 but forgot to cut the bolus with my picnic and ended up in the 50s mid afternoon.

By how much do other people cut their basal rates for exercise and for how long?

I generally cut down 30% for three hours, starting an hour before hand. If it is evening excercie, I will lower my bedtime basal 20% for 6 hours or so, when I remember to.

40-50% seems to be about right for me, depending on duration, effort, and temperature. Like solox, I have to start a temp basal at least an hour before exercising to avoid hypos.

Thankyou, it seems as if 50% is quite normal.I was wondering if I was overdoing it -.2 seems so little.
I'm beginning to understand why I had to eat so many dextrose tablets (and have so many hypos) on MDI. My 16 units a day works out at 3 times as much.
