| | | Temporary Enforced Idleness Today was "B-Day" as in biopsy day when I had my second prosate biopsy. For the record this procedure is not painful but it is extreemly uncomfortable. The only real downside is that I am under MD orders not to engage in my exercise regemen for 24 hours.
Ah, there is the rub -- three years ago the same MD made a mis-statement a simple slip of time unit. Three years ago she told me I could not exercise for 24 DAYS. When I noted this to her, she apologised profusely.
Given the fact that the procedure does stretch the sphincter muscle a the southern end of the digestive tract I have a doubt that I will want to ride my bicycle tomorrow, but I should be "back-in-the-saddle" on Wednesday.
FWIW: The procedure was only eight samples because the ultrasound did not show anything anamolous that needed to be sampled beyond the standard protocol. Therefore, I anticipate a clean test result in about two weeks.

I have to admit that men get pretty weird about prostate exams.
That being said, does he get a PSA test on an annual or semi-annual basis, if so, what are his numbers? If they are low then there might not be a reason for a DRE (Digital Rectal Exam), let alone a biopsy. And the biopsy is no picnic.
Finally prostate cancer is not among the top killing cancers, in fact it is the least likley to be fatal. However without some basic checking you could have a problem and not know it. Start with the PSA test and go from there.

He agreed to check his work calendar so he can shedule a day off to make an appointment! I will have to find him a male doctor taking new patients first! Quote:

| | | Hi Everyone!
Well, the biopsy was on Monday and I vegged out the rest of the day and Tuesday as well.
By Tuesday AM the rectal sorness was gone, but I really did not want to sit on the bicycle saddle. There was no rectal bleeding so I could have ridden the tandem or my single bike but I didn't fell like pushing it.
By Wednesday AM I was getting crazy! As a person used to some activity every day, being idle on Monday and Tuesday was getting to my head. So, we suited up, got the tandem ready and took our 22 mile ride on Wednesday AM. I was still seeing a fair amout of blood in my urine, but this is "normal" for post-prostate-biopsy. It really felt good to get out on the roads, breathe hard and feel great!
Thursday (today) was a bit of a bummer as it was on-and-off rain all day long. So, no tandem ride. The best part is that the blood in the urine is almost gone (again this is "normal").
Hopefully tomorrow will be a great day for riding.
For my fellow males who are out there and fear getting their prostates checked -- it isn't that bad. Get your PSA checked, if it is too high, the biopsy isn't really all that bad and recovery (as my week has noted) is pretty fast.

| | Good to hear it was not a big problem. Sounds like you are well on the way to getting back to normal. I need to get a colonoscopy done as I am 45 and never had this done. I have had my prostate checked and all was good but need to get this done.
Tomorrow better be a good riding day. I am off to the beach on my bike 50+ miles. Possible afternoon showers but only a small chance. It looks like I might even have a little tail wind. Keep riding!

| | | Hi Everyone!
The results are in (drumroll) and my prostate is clear! Yeah! The only result that I don't like is that the size has gone from 55 grams to 64 grams (i.e., from big to bigger). I think that I'm going to talk with the GU about Finasteride when I see him on Monday.
