What exercise does it for YOU?

I have recently began cycling around the neighborhood. Each day I get a little stronger and in a little bit better shape. I check my blood sugar after I cycle and it's usually around 104. This is MUCH better than riding my stationary bike. I think this is my niche. Cycling will likely help keep my type 2 diabetes in check. Does anyone else prefer cycling? What exercise best keeps your diabetes in check?

I'm thinking about taking up cycling instead of my 30 minutes treadmill routine. I didn't do any cycling since my childhood and want to see if I can do that.

I'd nice if anyone can tell me if this would be a good replacement for treadmill walking (3-4miles/hr for 30 mins).

I find a 30 minute walk in the evening with the dog does wonders for me. Before being diagnosed, I didn't do anything for exercise, so even simple walking is a great improvment, and it does a good job dropping the blood sugar, plus it helps get rid of the daily stress. As soon as I can afford it, i would like to get a bike and try that, lots of bike paths where I live.

Fuzzyjon, et al.,

I'm an avid cyclist (primarilly tandem bicyclist -- something that I enjoy with my wife). We've been at it for over 13 years and I've lost over 75 pounds (Linda dropped over 25), reduced my BG levels as well as cholesterol, blood pressure and resting heart rate.

Our initial cycling started with single bikes -- that didn't work for us as a couple. And our early tandem rides were less than five miles and we were exhausted from that effort. Now a 22 or 25 mile ride is a regular daily occurence and doesn't leave us exhausted for the day. Club rides are usually in the 35 to 60 mile range on weekends.

Rollerblading always lowers my blood sugar and I love it. Walking the dogs on their 2.5 mile walk nightly brings my blood sugar way down.

Cycling (and diet changes) has helped me lose 53 lbs since the end of March.

I love it.

I walk my Sheltie Simon each day. He can't go as far as I'd like to in one jaunt so it's several times a day. I was also using a treadmill, but it recently died. DH has a stationary recumbent bike being delivered for us next week so I'm really excited about that. Simon can only handle about 20 minutes of walking before I have to bring him home. My bs is down after just a short 20 minute walk but we do this several times a day. He's got a heavy coat and gets really hot so it's morning time and evenings for us.

Just look at my name and I'll give you 3 guesses.
Besides that I like to do constructive things so yard work is way up there. I go collect about 3/4 ton of rocks and boulders to landscape with, that's all my trailer can carry. I do it by hand. Heaving a 500 lb boulder into and out of the trailer give me my strength training for the day. Mowing my grass is another chore. I use a push mower and pushing it up hills repeatedly is a big workout. I don't have a huge lot. But it is a lot of work. The hills are bad enough that I rolled a lawn tractor twice before giving up on that.

Cycling here also. I have done many rides, anywhere from 20 to 50 mile rides. It takes a little planning and take some food and drinks but it sure helps the BS. I just recently rode to the beach on my vacation. A 50 mile ride that took me 2 1/2 hours. Started at 125 BS and rode in with a 85 BS. I consumed approx. 100 G of carbs on the ride and I did not bolus for it. Ran a little low the rest of the day. I have riden 22 miles every morning since. Keep up the cycling. Good way to excercise without beating up your joints.

I love running, but now that I am graduated, I can finally afford a bike to mix it up a bit.

I walk. I hate it. But I do it. I'd rather ride a bike, but I don't have the money right now to either fix up my old one or buy a new one. I'm the least athletic person in the world, so sports are OUT. I was picked last too many times in elementary school. (Childhood issues. No resentment there. LOL.)

Actually, I just hate exercising. I have no affection for it, whatsoever. For me, reading is the best stress reliever, or listening to music while I write. I don't get that "high" after exercising. I do it, and I do it just about everyday, but it's a fight every day.

I love to ride also. Last fall I bought a Diamondback Outlook for a $100 out of the used bike rack at a bike store. I know the Outlook isn't the world's greatest bike, but it was a fantastic buy at $100 and serves me fine for now. I'm sure in another year or two of riding I'll want to move up. On mild days, I'll ride an hour and a half or so. On weekends I do a 30 mile on a bike trail. Feels great.

When it's too hot or in the winter, I use a rowing machine at the gym at work.

Adult relations is my favorite exercise . Any aerobic exercise makes me feel good (running, racquet ball, swimming, mt/road biking, kayaking), but lifting weights is good too. Not AS effective as cardio on BGL's but is another good tension reliever.
