My dad is currently 58 years old (August 21st) and he is in decent shape. He is 5'9'', 168 pounds about. Him and I are "workout buddies" and we work out almost every day in our basement. He used to be quite a runner, never a speed runner but a distance runner. He ran about 5 marathons and averages 10 minute miles. A few years ago, he hurt his ankle and decided that he doesn't want to run anymore. At work, he walks as many steps as he can as his leg training and cardio. He averages about 700 steps a day and his goal is to average 1000 every day. Anyway, he is in the strongest shape that he's been in for 20 years. About 15 years ago, he decided to be a dumb*** and wanted to show off to people in his work. He was doing dips between two chairs and then one chair collapsed inwards and he tore something in his shoulder. Wait, this wasn't my point. This prevents him from heavy bench pressing but what I really was getting at is when he was about 21, he was in a car accident that messed up some of the muscles in his upper back/lower neck. He complains about neck problems every week and he says 5 out of the 7 days of the week, his neck always hurts. This often leads to a headache and just provides him with a **** day in general. I've recommended shoulder pressing but that doesn't seem to do much. Just a few months back, I got him to do dummy flies while lying on the ground with 30 pound dumbbells and he said this helps his neck a lot. He still complains often of neck pains and I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. He has tried chiropractors and said they are a bunch of quacks. Sometimes I walk on his back and crack it and he says that helps a lot but its only temporary. But like I said, he's in pretty good shape for his age. He can do about 30 push-ups, (17 push-ups with a 35 pound weight on his back), 7 pull-ups, and 13 dips. He has always had weak, skinny legs and he has about 20% body fat with somewhat of a belly. If anyone has any insight on his problem, I'd love to hear it
