How Long Does It Take For Metformin To Work?I'm a Type 2. I take metformin 500mg 3x daily (with each meal).
I've lost 20 lbs over the past 3-4 months. In another forum, some have suggested that the metformin could be causing some of the weigh loss. Anybody with a similar experience?
Regardless, since I've been diabetic, I've lost weight, gained some back, and lost again, etc. I've also lost muscle tone and mass. I don't consider myself really "overweight". I'm 6'2" and currently weigh 200 lbs. My heaviest ever was 235 and as recently as March I weighed 223.
I'd like to gained some weight back and gain muscle tone and mass. But obviously I assume I need to stay away from carbs? Also, I have slight to moderate reduced kidney function (GFR 58) so I'd be concerned about taking in too much added protein?
My exercise routine right now is a 2 mile walk/jog pretty much every day. I'm thinking about starting to lift weights maybe every other day. Will this help gain weight and muscle mass/tone? What supplements can a diabetic safely take that won't raise my blood sugar and be harmful to my kidneys?
