Question Yoga

Have any of you taken yoga classes while wearing your insulin pumps? I wear my pump for everything - running, biking, kayaking, etc. and this is the first activity I have found where my pump drove me nuts. First I could not find a place on my waistband that was not in the way in some pose. Second, the tubing kept working its way out of my pants from all the stretching & movement. I thought about disconnecting but the class is 90 minutes and is in the morning when I have a really high basal and exercise does not have the same effect dropping my BG levels as it does in the afternoon/evening. For instance, this Sat. I started at 125 and finished 90 minutes later on full basal at 124. Taking the pump on and off seems like it would disrupt the flow of the class and the beeping would be intrusive as well.

Hmmmm...anyone got any ideas? Yoga is new to me but I really liked it. I felt about ten years younger when I walked out of there from all that stretching.

Could you not bolus before yoga to cover the basal you would miss? And then stash the pump in a nice, muffled bag?

I thought about that, but 90 minutes worth of basal at that time of day for me is about 1.4 units. I worry that 1.4 units all at once will cause me to drop too low. Perhaps I could just use half of the basal and deal with my BG after class. I guess if I only missed about 0.7 of basal, the rise would not be that extreme...

I've been thinking about it all week and I really think I am going to have to disconnect from my beloved pancreas. I just cannot think of any other way. *sigh*

Would it not be possible to completely extend out the tubing? Basically have your pump lying beside you?

Why not clip your pump into your Bra in the center? Get's it away from your waist so that you can roll, stretch, contort any way you need to? As for the tubing, is it a problem that it's showing? I could care less if my tubing comes out of my pants when exercizing; as long as it doesn't catch on anything...

No, cause we are up and down and all over the place. I really liked it, but I never believed you could sweat that much just doing poses on a mat in one place in an air conditioned room. Imagine my pancreas attached on my upper back and just a swangin' (ha ha ) loose through this routine:

I guess I could clip it to my sports bra, and then it would just be a problem for the brief time you are face down prior to the cobra pose. Hmmmm.... I might try that on Saturday and see how it works. I don't care about hiding it just want it out of the way!

Yeah I figured that was going to be confusing. I typed that reply to your post about extending all the tubing and lying the pump beside me and while I was doing that Meech posted the good bra idea. So I should've pasted the quote but I thought the posts would be consecutive....

Well thanks for the ideas from both of you. I will test the sports bra idea this Saturday and see how it works.

I've never had problems with yoga and the insulin pump. I just extend the tubing out and put it on the floor next to my mat. That seems to work well enough (although it does require moving it alot). I've never gone low though during a session. Perhaps yoga just isn't stimulating enough for me.
