Push Ups

Hi all,

Sometime back in a post I mentioned that one of the best things about exercise is it can be done for free and be very effective. A June Men's Health article backed me up some.

The article looks at the good old push up and adds some modern twists to the venerable exercise. I am a big fan of push ups, although I am not one of those folks that can do them by the many multiples of 10. I have for years used several varieties as part of my workouts. The article introduced me to some new varieties and gave specific benefits of each, as well as, information about the overall effectiveness of push ups.

My point here is not to sell you on Men's Health, even though I quote it often. Rather, I hope to encourage anyone who doesn't exercise because of lack of funds or equipment.

Push ups are neat because they exercise many upper body muscles. By spacing the hands wider or narrower, you can hit various parts of the shoulders, arms, upper back, abdominals and chest. By placing the feet in a chair or on a bench, you can ratchet up the resistance and really push the push up to a higher level. The push up is a great upper body toner and strength builder, plus it is totally free.

So, drop and give yourself 10 or even 20. Do that and tomorrow you will be on your way to a better body and diabetes control.
