Hi guys,

I would like your feedback on the pain I'm experiencing. I have read all previous posts about the subject and it help me keeping hope so far. I have been diagnosed a year ago and quicky gain control. I was able to have great A1C (5.9. 5.3 and 5.4) but the pain still subside. I have told my endo about this and as I was explaining the type of pain, he was frowning a lot. That's why I came here. I told him that I have days where I can feel tension in my legs by just standing. That most of the time, when I climb stairs, if I don't go quickly enough, I feel like my legs will flinch. After the flight of stairs, I have cramps like string pulling in every direction. I can work throught the pain on an eleptical but I had days where I had to just gave up. Everything else is fine.

Is this a neuropathy type of pain or this is weird and I should start thinking about another cause?

Hello everyone,
I am brand new here and need some help or advice from experienced ppl living with a metabolic disorder. Thanks for reading and please be patient with my rambling.

Since Late December 2011 or early January 2012. I noticed one day I had to urinate more than normal and from time to time my mouth was dry. I knew what this might be b/c I had a scare years before. So I went to the clinic the next AM and got my finger pricked on a fast. 92. The DR said it was a tad high but not to worry too much and to focus on diet and exercise. Well I had since met with a dietician, started shopping around the isles at the grocery store and eating alot healthier. I bought the book "Dealth to Diabetes". Ive since quit drinking beer, only bourbon and water, but I still smoke. Trying to kick this habit. I have met some doctors, one being an endo, and he said im prob pre-diabetic. The rest day Im just fine of course. My insulin has been 2-3 on a fast. My A1C was 5.4. So I bought a meter, read some books etc to start following my bodies direction over the next few months.

So for the past few months I have still be going out and drinking bourbon and waters on weekends, smoking but eating healthy most of the time. Ive lost about 20 pounds(whether this is from the new diet and adding a LITTLE exercise, I dont know). Exercising about 20-25 mins a day 3-5 days a week. Since then, I have been eating salads almost every day with quinoa(healthy carbs) or black beans(healthy carbs) with lots of veggies and oil and rice vinegar, ALOT. I bake salmon frequently, eat oatmeal or hard boiled eggs in the AM and drink my morning coffee. Salads or chicken and veggies for lunch. Blackberries, apples and walnuts for snacks. Wholefoods vitamins, fish oil tablets, flax seeds for fiber.

The last few weeks I have noticed an uneasy, pressurized feeling behind my eyes, that seems to come on after eating a meal. My vision wasnt blurry and I wasnt dizzy, but it just felt like alot of pressure behind my eyes, and sort of like a fever. I went to an eye doc and they said my eyes were perfect. But this has been going on for weeks on and off. Some days are good, some bad.

Now the urination isnt all that common, same with the dry mouth. A few nights in a row I will wake up to pee but just one time. I dont really wake up with dry mouth. And my BG has been in the low to mid 90's to low 100's at a fast. After dinner two hours later, my BG was around 105-115.

Now last weekend I went to The Players Championship golf tournament. On the way I ate some eggs and a sausage patty and I had to pee more than normal and my mouth got dry. I drank way too much on the course, had some beers(which I was trying to avoid all together) and didnt sleep all night. It was a bachelor party weekend! Since then all this week, the eye discomfort has come on stronger, my BG after meals has been in the 120's-130's(2 hours later). My meter will say 130, then I will use a new strip and it will say 112. I dont know whats going on here.

Tonight I made a spinach salad with lots of veggies, oil and rice vinegar and almost a whole can of black beans on top. MY BG two hours later was 134 and then another strip said 123 right after.

I guess I am confused. I dont know what is really going on with my body after all the healthy eating, books read. Yes, I know the alcohol isnt good, but I thought carb-less liquor and water was OK, and better than beer! I dont know if I am eating too much quinoa or beans, too many simple carbs??

I dont know what my body really needs me to do. I dont know if I am becoming T2 or T1?

I dont know why after every meal this week, my eyes feel terrible and I am tired. But no frequent urination or dry mouth?

I usually eat an apple before bed. Bad idea?

Anyway, again thank you for reading, sorry for the rambling. But I am confused, feel bad and am looking for some sound advice for what lies ahead or how I can take better measures to prevent something worse.

Thank you and have a great evening!

Hi, I'm Amanda, and I am happy to have found this board. While I am healthy and do not have diabetes, I have been working for two years with my pastor's wife, who has diabetes that has not been controlled very satisfactorily by meds. I also am helping another friend who is very overweight and diabetic to lose weight and hopefully the diabetes as well. I had read quite a bit about health and nutrition in years past, having diagnosed my daughter's processed milk allergy and developed arthritis myself, so I wanted to help my friends and began doing more reading, relying on Dr. Mercola's website, information from the Weston A. Price Foundation, and other similar sources. She has made some progress, although she is having to work hard at the diet and exercise aspect of it, and I decided that I really wanted to help people with what I knew, so just a few weeks ago I decided to start studying for my nutritional consultant certification. I joined here hoping to glean more information with which to help my two "clients" live healthy, happy lives.

By the time i adjust my ratios itll work great a day or 2 then the lows come and i have to go back to previous ratios. Ive had a virus for about 2 weeks now and oh boy im running in the low to mid 300s again and its making me a zombie. So yesterday with supper i decided i was gonna try IM for my bolus instead of sub q, to try to avoid a huge spike and the near coma that goes along with it. 2 hours after eating i was 256, so i guess it worked better to a point but ugh i expected better results. So i guess today ill be adjusting my coverage ratio,,,,of course that means ill be having hypos by this weekend when my body decides it wants to screw with me :-p That was just a rant, but i am wondering is anyone else pretty much a zombie 24/7? Its not uncommon for me to sleep 12-16 hours a day. 1-2 naps per day. Im always tired. Not as tired as i was a year ago (when i was undiagnosed) it was so bad then that i couldnt physically get off the couch most days, but still i feel like its abnormal how tired i am. Diabetes is so much fun.

Hey there Forum!
I'm Mikey! I'm 21 years old and am not currently a diagnosed diabetic.
However for many years of my life and as far back as I can remember I've been plagued with what
seems to be the trademark signs of diabetes. I even have some family history of issues with it.

For the last few years I've dedicated myself to finding a solution to this sickly presence I call my every day life.
I'm getting medical benefits here in the next month or so, so I'm ready to start making some headway with my doctor.
Now, while I wouldn't say I'm hopeful to be diagnosed I am hopeful for some sort of resolution so I can finally start living my life a little more happily.

Besides introductions, The questions I'd like to ask you all are...
1. What type of testing would you suggest to get the most accurate results?
2. How should I prepare?
3. Are these tests particularly expensive? How much are they?
4. How was life for you prior to your diagnosis?

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since I’ve been on the forum and I have really missed being here.

Things have been really difficult for me the past year in more ways than one and I have been battling that awful demon depression, amongst other things.

Last year I was diagnosed with stone disease and also medullary sponge kidney - MSK (which is a congenital defect in my kidneys) which makes them produce kidney stones. I have had two lithotripsy procedures on my kidneys so far and have had 17 stones in 12 months alone – the pain is seriously doing my head in. My body seems to be producing the stones at a fast pace and this scares the absolute **** out of me – I haven’t lost kidney function yet, but at this rate things don’t look so spectacular going forward. I have had renal pain every day for more than a year, and it is seriously debilitating and bringing me down in a major way.

The MSK also causes me to have frequent urinary tract infections, as you guys all know infections are just super for our blood sugars.
To make matters worse, a couple of months ago I started having strong chest pain. A couple of ambulance rides later, several trips to the emergency dept .and an angiogram last week has left me diagnosed with iliac artery disease and angina inversa.

I kinda feel like I’m falling apart at the seems. All the stuff that is wrong with me is not curable only treatable like our diabetes. I’m on a really impressive med list and this depresses me too.

Sorry for sounding like such a misery guts, I’ve wanted to post for so long and share but I just kept shying away, I guess I just wanted to touch base and let you all know that I’m still here, broken... but still here.

Any advice with dealing with MSK, infections, angina, depression are very welcome.

Thanks for always being here and lending an ear/shoulder – it really means a lot.
